Tired of Trainz

This is getting ridiculous!! Now I can't even use the Multiple Industry New anymore. It has thread exceptions and after I switched over from Compatibility to Native Mode it still wouldn't work!! What the heck should I do now because first trains would try to load and would say thread exceptions and the train wouldn't load and would be stuck and unable to drive!! Now I can't even enter anything into the queues because of this:

MultipleIndustryNew : Thread Exception: ER_Exception, line 1911, file multipleindustrynew.gs (1)
MultipleIndustryNew : ProductFilter.DoesAcceptProduct> null product (file ProductFilter.gs) (1)

I think it's time for an upgrade because as much as I like TS2009 World Builder Edition I can't stand I'm going to get TS12 and it better not have these same freaking problems!! If they do, then I'm going over to Railworks 2 and I'm sure they are much better in terms of quality and realistic features and overall gameplay. At least they have horn echoes and realistic train sounds. They also have easy route building techniques and better grade crossing's and can operate AI Driver trains without the worry of constant worry of stupidity about their decisions and they still have portals to release trains and multiplayer and so much more!!

Go ahead and don't even bother upgrading. Just go straight to Railworks 2.

TS2012 is nothing more then a new logo, some content and everything TS2010 had.
So why pay AUD$50 for something that does not work and will be out dated in a year? Go ahead and go to Railworks 2, it has everything you said plus much more and it works!

See you there!;)

Cheers,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had rail simulator and then railworks from the beginning. The AI traffic trains and the scenario editor started out completely useless and buggy, with most AI trains either crashing the program or creeping at half a mile an hour if the player threw a switch on the AI's path (even several hours ahead!). They "fixed" it by having the AI trains lock every single switch on the path no matter how far ahead or how many hours away - and it still didn't work, the AI still got confused and lost, and the last time I tried it you could no longer spawn trains from portals. The only way to make AI work at all in Railworks is to stack up multiple AI trains (each of which has to be done individually, no way to start one every 15 minutes with identical instructions, if you have 20 AI trains following each other doing the exact same things you have to program the instructions 20 times) and have them follow each other at set times. The paths are chosen by the program when the scenario is saved, and on the rare occasion that it don't crash or freeze up it only works on multiple track mainlines with no meets or traffic conflicts. The signals are strictly decoration, the AI trains in Railworks are following a script (when they don't get confused and forget the script) and they pay no attention to signals. The AI traffic in Trainz may be psychotic at times, but Railworks AI traffic is hopelessly retarded and the Railworks scenario editor is buggier and more unstable than the MSTS route editor. If you're looking for operations with AI traffic, railworks is the wrong place to look unless you're only interested in British multi mainline commuter rail with a rigid unchanging schedule. If Railworks was good for anything other than the casual player hopping into a train and "having a run", I'd still be with Railworks. :n:

Assertions?

Hi JRT --

So many inaccuracies in the assertions you make that it's obviously from person who does not have TS12!~!

Kris --

The MIN works just fine in TS12.

The new routes in TS12 are outstanding.

Frame rates are improved. There are many other modifications that make the experience even better than before. Just don't expect all the legacy content in earlier versions to be included - which may/may not cause a few issues.

But also get RW2 if you can get it cheap or from the usual suspects. But in no way pay full price - it's just not worth it. It's worth a twirl just to see the maturity of many of the features we take for granted in TS12.

Phil

Yeah I have TS2009 so I'm not saying anything against TS12 and I'm accurate with TS2009 because it seems the longer I play the game, the more problems I have. Maybe it's my computer and if it is then I will have to get a computer strictly for gaming, especially games that take up as much memory as this game.

False. TS12 includes a new logo, some new content, plus new features, including ones that the community wanted, like Multiplayer (TS12 is the first non-beta build with multiplayer, I believe), Doppler sound effects, the fact that the built-in content from TS2010 is not included, but you will be able to download those assets from the DLS (which is an other requested feature, apparently), plus more. Do not talk like you are telling the truth when you are not.

Besides, Trainz can be a lot more than just a train simulator; it can be a world simulator. I can build a residential neighborhood right down to the mailbox with flowers/vines growing on it. ;) That is one great thing that Trainz has going for it.

Regards.

And what about Railworks 2? RW2 also doesn't have the bugs and issues with it's industries and the buildings and houses look so much more realistic than those of trainz after all I've seen the trailer and videos on YouTube and it's pretty good but I will try the game out for myself before I judge it. The game isn't as picky with the locos and how they are built. Plus I tried to get one the KCS SD50 from World of Trainz into the game but when I click on it in the game or try to use it, the game freezes and closes down. No matter if it's in Railyard, Surveyor, or Driver, it still doesn't work and I don't know why.

Trainz is easily capable of the same level of realism as RW2. It's really more a matter of the assets used.

As for WoT, you mean the World-of-Trainz products that
"From September 2007 installer packages are compatible with TRS2004, TRS2006# and Trainz Classics#." Where is 09 and later versions mentioned there? Also, they're copy-protected, which could well be the cause of your problems in the first place.

Frankly I agree Railworks LOOKS more realistic than Trainz, especially the switches. However;

"RW2 also doesn't have the bugs and issues with it's industries"

The industries are more limited, and AI trains can UNcouple and leave cars behind now, but they still won't couple onto a string of cars and haul them away. The primary reason you don't hear about all the bugs in Railworks is because every forum where it's discussed the developers and fans try to quash the discussion, usually by starting flamewars and getting the admins or moderators to delete the threads. I'm a moderator over at trainsim.com, so I've seen this firsthand - there's even one developer who logs in under an alias so he can report the same post twice under two different names.

As Phil says, if you have money to burn, go ahead and try Railworks - if nothing else it will make you appreciate Trainz more. :wave: Clean up old and temp files, defrag your hard disk, run spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ and run the extended database repair - "because it seems the longer I play the game, the more problems I have" is indicative of problems on YOUR computer, not the game itself.

I'm really weighing what to say very carefully, because I always get accused of being "offensive":hehe: for just telling people that I don't see any of the problems in TS12 that they're seeing.

I guess if you don't have the desire or patience to fix assets then Trainz may not be for you. I've not seen a whole lot of ways to fix assets using railworks, I'm not sure about railworks 2 but in railworks I didn't see anything like CCP.

To be completely honest I didn't play with it that much, because it seemed rather lame and I felt I wasted my money. Trainz on the other hand has the way to fix practically every asset if you want to do it. I have not run across much since 2004 that I couldn't fix.

But I guess I am above average in patience and desire. I'm really not sure if the original poster is going to be happy going from 2009 to railworks, and I suspect he'll be back eventually.

As to JRT his comments really are to be expected. But TS12 is without a doubt the finest Trainz version to date. Now I'm not going to say that there are absolutely no issues, because there are. Compared to 2009 when it wouldn't even start half the time without a database rebuild (yes I know that was fixed in patching) TS12 it's practically error-free compared to 2009 at first release.

There is the attachment point issue where it seems that attached track in assets and industries seems to be really narrow, you have to really be precise when attaching tracks to them. Is it in error or bug, technically I guess but it's nothing that can't be worked around if you have patience.

Had a user this afternoon that just bought a content pack from Auran/N3V that works great in 2010 but the train cars were showing errors in TS12. It was a really simple fix, basically just deleting obsolete terms that were built in the asset.

Those particular train cars, once you delete those three entries and recommit, they're fine. But to some people that's too much effort and that really has to be a personal choice I guess. But if he's looking for less headaches I don't think any computer program is going to satisfy him.

Wow well that's news to me but I still like to try it out and I need a new computer because I have a 2007 Windows Vista Home Premium Computer by Dell.

Wow well that's news to me but I still like to try it out and I need a new computer because I have a 2007 Windows Vista Home Premium Computer by Dell.

Well I have a 2 1/2-year-old Dell that originally came with Vista 64-bit premium I think.

I just recently finally upgraded the RAM and retired the original video card, not that it was a slouch by any means because even at 2 1/2 years old it was still pretty hot card.

But if you're going to build a new one just make sure you get plenty of RAM,and make sure that you get at least a 256 bit video card, a 64-bit or 128 bit may be cheaper but you're not going to like it running a program like Trainz.

When I went to replace the older video card in my Dell, I figured strictly speed and memory was all I needed to look at. Boy was I wrong. I found a card that actually had a better clock speed, same amount of RAM only a faster speed RAM, and I figured okay it's newer so it's got to be cool. It was a 128 bit card and Trainz was a slideshow.

It was only after I started digging deeper in the specifications that I saw the bit rate on the memory and realized quickly where the bottleneck was. I finally settled on a new video card that was the same bit rate as the old one but with a faster clock speed. So all works well now.

Got me a five year old Dell;

Model: Dell DXP051
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp.080413-2111)
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512.0 MB
NVIDIA Driver Version: 6.14.0012.5721

Sound: SigmaTel Audio
sthda.sys Driver Version: 5.10.4823.0000

Hard Drive: Maxtor 6L160M0 147.8 GB

* McAfee Anti-virus
* McAfee Personal Firewall

And I DO have SOME problems with TS2010, in particular the terrain paint menu freezes up surveyor after 8 1/2 minutes every time (help desk ticket was closed because they gave up) and surveyor freezes occasionally when switching from static buildings to building splines. I suspect I could cure the latter with an extended database repair, I got a few things showing up red in the menus. Fixing content to run in native mode is a pain, trying to get anything from the download station is a pain, so TS2010 is far from perfect - it's CLOSER to perfect than MSTS or Railworks tho. If you think you have trouble getting Trainz downloads to work, you should see all the posts asking for help getting Railworks repaints to show up in the list, scenarios, locos, and routes that cause "Something bad has happened" error messages, etc. I agree Trainz has bugs, but if you're looking for less bugs in MSTS or Railworks, you're in for some serious disappointment.

have you patched up to the newwat patch for your game

Agree over here!

Yes I aree with you, RW 2 is much better in many ways for instance the InterCity 125 is ,halleujah, much more detailed and once you actually get used to world editor it is easy to use when you actually use more than once. Everything is a lot more realistic, and I don't know what you are talking about AI they work fine for me.

Hi Kris94.
Just a guess, but it may be that you have downloaded some of the new 2010 updates, this seems to have happened to a few others too. Try the Revert trick with the industries and all their dependencies. :wave:

"It's the AI, stupid."

Hi uracco --

" ... I don't know what you are talking about AI they work fine for me."

Really!~? Only, in Sniper's words, if you see the AI as just being moving scenery.

Some of us think that AI and players should interact. When you can get RW to do this get back to me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv3iEH0CPak

(Best watched at 480p and full screen.)

Until the 4 minute mark the video follows one of the AI trainz. At 4 minutes into the video we jump into and control the green locomotive with two NP box cars.
