Thinking about upgrading...

I would argue that the platform is too far gone to make any improvements without bottlenecks. The AM2 platform was released a very long time ago and we've come a long way since then.

- Any modern GPU ideal for T:ANE or anything graphically demanding would be bottlenecked by the Athlon X2. No debate on this one.

- THe RAM limitations are already a significant factor, that and DDR2 has been out of production for quite some time.

- SATA based expansion is also probably quite limited by the mainboard in favour of IDE.

Jack

If I do get myself a new PC, I will make sure to get a custom built PC. The Windows 8.1 that I've also mentioned may be powerful enough, but I think a custom built PC would be better for my needs in the Gaming Experience.

The motherboard maxs at 4 gigs of memory.

Cheerio John
Thanks John, yeh, that system is just to old and not worth spending a penny on.

I agree Jack. Its had its day and whatever you do isn't going to provide value for money, its hardware is just to outdated as you have pointed out.

Ok, so I got the specs of my Windows 8.1 PC (finally) so here they are:

Looking at it I'd say it has on board graphics which maybe a little light. The 4 gigs of memory in a single slot is unusual these days on a dual channel system I'd expect to see two slots filled with the same size memory. Looks like a system designed for business use.

Cheerio John

When looking for a PC when I worked with CAD's, a knowledgable chap of mine gave me some great advice: 'If it fits in the cubby in your workdesk, there's not much hope.'

This is looking at the situation from an engineering standpoint, it's irrelevent nowadays (with all the Alienwares flying around nowadays :hehe:). However, this was when I was sourcing a workstation machine, I haven't really looked for a compact workstation since then, I'm sure the size has shrunk, and the power increased.

The best you can do with that chassis is install half height expansion cards, which rules out anything above specific Geforce GTX 750's produced by GIGABYTE. PSU limiting of course, which it might be... That and the APU is weaker than an aging Core 2 Quad based on passmark scores, another bottleneck. This is a business orientated machine though, so don't expect to be able to do much given the form factor.

Jack

Technically you can, however the platform itself with its restrictive form factor and limitations in terms of performance mean it might not be worth it.

All those hundreds of "specs" that you posted are non-descript

Windows 64 installed:
HD size:
RAM:
CPU speed in GHz:
Power Supply wattage:
Video card model:

So many people are sold, a stinky Carp fish, at the BigBox fishstore ... great for everyday general computing, and business ... but so putridity crummy for gaming.

I have seen several people buy a $1200 PC they "thought" was great ... it failed in Trainz ... then they go right out again and buy another second rate $1200 PC ... and it fails for Trainz ... seems they never learn to ask ... before buying a "racehorse" or Florida swampland property.

Do you not see the specs on the last page near the bottom for the Windows 8.1 PC!? I was using a tool that johnwhelan told me I should use to get my specs.

No ... I don't think the required specs are included there ... I sort of nodded out, and drifted off to sleep after reading so much un-needed information

All that ??? ... It's like listening to one of my GF's (long) short stories or recipes Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It seems to tell me: "It's not gonna werk" !

Can I repeat something?

This is a business-machine and not meant for high performance graphics.

http://store.hp.com/us/en/mlp/deskt..._r163_us/en/newstyleit/elitedesk700sff/buynow

The machine will melt, or have such poor performance you'll want to toss it out the window. Seriously consider something bigger and more capable as it will be extremely difficult trying to bring this machine up to a game-quality level, and in the end will cost you more.

John, I get it. I need a higher end PC. That's why I knew it would be better to build a Gaming rig then buy a low budget one. Besides, I don't think I'll get T:ANE, and just hold off quite a bit longer seeing how people are reacting to it now. Besides, TS12 works flawlessly for the 2nd time since the High end HP laptop, and all my other things like the DS Emulator actually run at full framerate compared to barley any on my Main Windows 7 PC.
