The mystery of the decreasing ...

Every morning I have a look at the DLS with a general search, TRS2004 and UTC. Today it showed a total of 9750 found; yesterday 9822 and Wednesday 10020. A short while ago it was over 11000. And yet every day new items are listed.

Are items being deleted? If so, what and whose? If not, is the number found meaningless?

I think it's due to some of the changes that were made a while back to improve the speed of DLS searches. Basically, when you perform an open search it doesn't return all of the results unless you are searching for something in particular. As a test, search for content for each version in turn, and then select versions in pairs or threes.

It's odd, but it's nothing to worry about.

Ray, I think you may be correct in your assumptions. As recently as a month ago there were at least a half dozen GE 44 Tonners on the DLS. A search as of yesterday turned up only one.

Magiclands PRR N5 and N5C cabeese dissapeared from the TRS2006 game DLS...However, I did locate them on the Auran Black pages DLS

I've carried out the test suggested by paulzmay and the results are:

Pres-SP£ Trainz 786
TRAINZ 6713
UTC 3300
TRS2004 9355

UTC + TRS2004 9716
UTC + Trainz 8030
TRS2004 + TRAINZ 10003
TRS2004 + Pre-SP3 9355

The numbers clearly don't add up to make any sense so I'll just ignore them and carry on creating! But I was just curious.

Thanks for all replies.

I think he's referring to the DLS at http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php

Bob

That is the regular Auran DLS. I thought he was referring to a location that I was not aware of. Incidentally, yesterday I tried searching for the "Coal 2Bay OP hoppers" on the DLS. I have most of them, but was hoping to download the rest of them. My search turned up "zero", they are gone and I went all the way down to Original Trainz. It should be noted that both the 44 Tonners and the Operating Coal Hoppers require a lot of "fixing" to work in 09/10. Perhaps that is why they have been removed. Perhaps some of the 3rd party sites (freeware and payware) will make these and other deleted items available in the future.

I like those also. What and where are the Auran Black pages DLS?

Thanks, tomurban

I think he was differentiating between the website DLS and the contents available via CMP, which many still refer to as 'the DLS', hence 'game DLS' and 'black pages DLS'.

@tomurban,
I just tried listing coal 2bay in CM3.2 and on the DLS and all 29 are still listed and available for download.

Thanks Bob. After reading your post I tried searching again and found zero. I waited a few minutes, retried the search and found 29 just as you did. There must be something to that old adage, "If at first you do not succeed...................................."

Got it. To me, CMP is one thing and the DLS is another. Thank you.

Or just go to protrainz.com. Go to the freight section, click the "download" and it opens Content Manager Plus and that's how I got the N5C. I did the GP9, the same way and that way works as good as the Download Station.

What is going on ? Is Auran deleting content in May ?

I have noticed hundereds of assets disappearing from the TRS2006 DLS ... I presume Auran is cleaning house prematurely, and is deleting faulty content in May ?

Some of these have small typos in the config files, which are very easily repaired ... but it seems the assets are being deleted forever ? ! ?

Hundereds of items show "UpdateAvailable", but there is no update available.

The only way I will purchase TS2010 is if all the TRS04/06 content is still available to download so that it works in TS2010. If all this fine great old content goes away permanently ... what an aweful waste !!!

I would not reccommend TS2010 to anyone ... and I am informing all persons that I encounter daily, at train conventons, hobby shops, Model RR Clubs, and railfaning locations, that Auran is disabling the 04/06 DLS ... when they have none of the old great content to replace in the TS2010 simulator.

I think you must be doing something wrong, as I get this:

As for cascaderailroad's claim that Auran are 'deleteing content prematurely', I think you need a new tin foil hat there...

Can we have some examples please, because I'm not sure I believe this. That said, a clean up of the DLS is long overdue and if it removes assets that are riven with errors and virtually unfixable, then I don't mind.

Paul

Almost all the faulty assets are fixable, and quite easily fixable, if you know how to correct and edit a config file, and replace missing jpg & tga images. If I can do it ... anyone else can do it too.

I feel really sorry for people who are eager, readily & willing to give up so many great assets.

I just used CM3.2 to count the number of kuids for each built number. Of the total of 151078 kuids in my database, here are the results:
Build/kuid

1.4/9
1.5/13591
2.0/53496
2.1/1343
2.2/5716
2.3/64
2.4/33204
2.5/10187
2.6/836
2.7/110
2.8/506
2.9/3541
3.0/257
3.1/188
