The General, a US Civil war locomotive

The 3 on the headlight glass is correct. I believe that came about when the L&N fixed it up in the 1960s. Numbers on the headlight glass was standard practice for steam locos on the L&N. I don't think it was there before the L&N restored it, though.

Cheers,
Ben

She's one beautiful engine, I got to run it for a little bit yesterday morning before going to bed, (had to get up for church yesterday morning too), but I'll have videos of this one before long..........:D:D:D

One thing that "Narrowgauge" pointed out is that the DRIVERS are misplaced! Don't know how I missed that one.

Will be corrected in the next version.

Thanks to all for pointing out the little (and not so little! ;) ) things. With your help, this will be a great engine! Believe me, I'm taking notes and making corrections!

Sometimes youtubes servers are a horror, especially when your trying to upload a movie, sometimes you just gotta go away for a bit then come back and try again later............:):):)

don't forget to add this to your layout!

67261:26018 CSA ironclad

That was made some time ago,, do I need to remake one to the Chicora or CSS Virginia style? If I remake her I can add some annimation like flags and such,

67261:29052 and 67261:29055 I also made the CSA Hunley, also on the DLS.

67261:26019 As well as the 13" Mortar, For both Union of confederate, on the DLS

67261:26693 or if your doing Union,, There is also my USS Monitor on the DLS, You may want to adjust here blue iron hue color, depending upon your monitor, On mine it is greyblue,, but some have told me it is really too blue on theirs .

Looking forward to the General!!! I may just have to build my hometown, Charleston SC, and this loco would make it very possible! thanks for a GREAT creation!

Looks great! I'll see if I can't hack apart a couple of coaches & back-date them 10-20 years, and letter them for the W&ARR.... Any idea what colors they were painted back in the '60's?
I need a distraction from the Porter anyway :p

Hi
Where can one find plans for typical 1860's rolling stock, water towers ect?

John White's books have some nice plans and photographs - see The American Railroad Freight Car: From the Wood-Car Era to the Coming of Steel http://www.amazon.com/American-Railroad-Freight-Car-Wood-Car/dp/0801852366
and
The American Railroad Passenger Car, Parts I and II
http://www.amazon.com/American-Railroad-Passenger-Hopkins-Technology/dp/0801827434

I'm mainly working off of photographs, tho - I've seen a couple of water towers that look like the one I have on the DLS, but have open bases instead of being enclosed. Wood fuel looks like it's on open platforms called wood ricks.
This site has some models of Civil-War era cars (although ignore the trucks - they are later prototypes) http://www.btsrr.com/bts9507.htm

For trucks (bogeys) probably wood frame - something like http://www.geocities.com/budb3/parts/aar2.html

Western And Atlantic passenger cars were straw yellow. Box cars slate blue.

Thanks, Joe!

Something like this?
warr_coach.jpg

It probably needs a couple of roof vents - anything else? Should it say 'Western & Atlantic' instead of 'W & A R. R.'? What about trim colors / scrollwork? Would it have had a stove, or does it not get that cold?

Thanks!
Curtis
