The Canadian Thread - Hi-Res images

Hi Michael, well it will be worst case if you don't follow the doc's orders! Nice to see the island again! I think we feel the same about that dang tane thing. It really makes me laugh to hear Hillerman or whatever his name is telling us how hard he has been working. Geez, he didn't even know what was going on when he was off on vacation climbing some mountain. I would think he would have put off his trip until tane was finished. Well to be fair that will be a long, very long time from now. I imagine the DRM thing is working like a charm. I don't believe we will be able to use tane without it. He will force it on those who use tane one way or another. I guess the content creators might be able to save them. Why don't they pay these guys? They are the ones that really sell this sim. Oh it's going to be the journey of a life time alright! I wish I was 12 again, I might then have enough years to see what it turns out like. Hee, hee, I think they are sending out an update as soon as it is shipped out. That would be a great way to sneak the DRM in on the guys who are getting the non DRM version ... if there really is such a beast! I feel sorry for the guys emptying their pockets buying new gear hoping they will be able to run it. I'll stay with what I have and keep it off line. I have STILL seen nothing yet that even looks as good as TS12. In fact, the shots seem to be getting worse. What a farce!

Take care of your limbs bud!

Cheers .... Rick .... yes, someday the content creators will make it great. n3v, or whatever, has done nothing to be blowing their horn over.

Hi Rick, sincerely I do not recognize you here in this post. The Rick I know is positive, enthousiast, motivated. A big part of this thread getting constant post comes because you always gives a positive comment and encourage us to keep it up. But with this latest post.....Hmmm, I'm really surprised you wrote that. Did someone forced you while pointing a gun at you to write that  ?

What is so wrong with T:ANE ? DRM ? They will fix the problem for boxed version to be able not to be DRM dependent for the ones who refuse this. N3V's team worked much and is still working hard on this version which brought many unpredictables things through it's developement. This version is(will be) a great improvement over the previous version. It does not mean TS12 is not good. When fax machine were invented and brougth up on the market, that was simply revolutionary for it's time. Now, just few people has or use a fax since internet is beeing spread out worlwide. Changes are rarely welcome at first but most of the time we are glad these changes have been made years or month after.
Hope to read you in a better mood !
Friendly,
Pierre

Speaking of Rick, his little engine spent the evening in the paint shop!

An animated bell and fire in the firebox and fully animated set of Stephenson Valve Gear inside! Still needs texture work on the rods, firebox and cab. Shouldn't be much longer!

Oh man, that steamer Steve is doing for Rick sure is looking sweet. I've still picked up only the one CN locomotive from K&L but I think I'll be getting another soon. Thanks Rick and Steve. You guys are great!

Let's see .... where to start, the good (great!) or the bad. The bad I guess. Honestly, I thought this would be like a professionally done simulator. At first I had no idea how much this company depended on the creators (the good ones). Now I believe trainz would be just a memory without them. They do the great work, n3v reap the rewards.

There are NO excuses in the business world. You don't send out an unfinished product with the promise that down the road it will be completed. It's like buying a new truck. Are you going to settle for a sales pitch like this, "This baby is going to be the mother of all trucks in a few years! You might be able to drive it now, if not, don't worry, we're still fine tuning it." Are you going to buy that truck? Are you going to wait a few years and see how well the mother of all trucks turns out? Are you just going to keep your old truck, maybe not perfect, but at least it gets you where you want to go? Are you going to buy another kind of truck?

Pete, I only have a grade 9 education. I could claim that I have a GED (can't remember what it's called) 83% grade 12 average, but those tests were only common sense. I avoided computers for many years. Most of my friends and I thought they were for weirdos. I never dreamed the day would come that I would own a computer. So, like I've always admitted, I'm not the brightest guy, amazed I can get anything done in this sim. Common sense tells me this is not the way to get new people to buy your product. Sure you make suck a bunch of people into buying it, that will get you a few bucks, but they are not going to give you anymore of their money and your reputation will suffer.

I believe than the main idea behind tane is to get people to buy the payware items that I'm sure we will be seeing lots of. I think that was their number one goal. Do you think this DRM is something they are doing for us? I don't think I have to tell you that I don't mind paying for quality work. I just believed that tane should be all they say it was going to be right out of the box.

Wow, Steve, good thing you're not here, I'd be kissing you right now! That is shaping up to be one of your best locos! Man, what a great job you're doing! Thanks so much for all you've done for me! I think I will just look at her for a couple of hours, too late to work on the route today.

Sorry guys, I just can't understand why so many think these guys can do no wrong.
Sometimes, I have to question people with a business degree on whether or not they actually learned and know something or if it is just a piece of paper that says they know something. I think that the way TANE is/was working out is just nuts and not the way I would've done it. I've seen many games that get delayed a year sometimes because they just aren't finished. People still bought the game and were still happy, plus they knew it actually worked. Any game is going to have its bugs and needs updates, but you should smooth over the major holes that might cause the game to work incorrectly in development and testing.

Well Rick, these are from TS12, finally getting around to some hours that I can work on my route and play around. Welcome to the new Irish City. Updates have occurred since moving the route from TS2010 to 12.

Thanks, Rick.. I think it is a mix of the work that is being done along with it looking better in 12. I did some editing with sky colors so that I could also achieve the sunrise/early morning feel. Shots haven't looked that good since the last time I had a PC that ran 12 decently.

Those are nice shots that you posted Chris. The colouring of the sky definitely gives them that sunrise/sunset feel. I like the overgrown look along the track. Great job!

Rick, I hope life improves soon. As far as Tane goes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And that's enough on that subject.
Those last screenshots of yours are really nice. I love the little village and the fishing boats on the water. That rock texture is perfect. The roads look good with using textures too. I've done some of that far from the track but where the road angles across the grid it's hard to get it to look right. You are sure doing fantastic work on your route. And if you want to have long distance views just get rid of all the trees and hills!
I bet you are eagerly awaiting your latest engine. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product myself.

Michael, I hope your arm gets better before next spring. That would drive me nuts not being able to sit at the computer. It looks like your route is going to be a winner.

Have a good one everybody,
Jack

Thanks Jack;
I hope the arm is fully recovered before next spring too. Actually it's the hand that's the problem; I can't use a mouse at all. I'm using my left hand with a touchpad to do what I can. Which isn't much, ;-(

I tried to load 2 of my 3 routes into T:ANE build 75439 and The Kettle Valley loads, but the CPR East doesn`t. It`s too big.

cheers,
--Michael.

Matt, those shots of yours are nice indeed. I love the mountains.

Those screenshots coming from the east coast are pretty darn good too! Your roads look perfect with grass right up to them Rick. It hides any zigs and zags good. I might have to try that with my route but I'm not sure it's worth it for a road a mile or more from the track. I know you don't see it in cab view but I like watching the train from various other views and then I can see and it bugs me. Anyway, here's CP leaving the spur to the mine and heading back to the yard. Been busy with other thing the last few days and haven't gotten much done with Trainz.

Hi Michael, I hear things are pretty dry out in B.C. and big forest fires are already burning. Where's all that rain you guys get when you need it!?

Cheers all have a great long weekend! ....Rick

Hi Rick,
I dunno where the rain is. We here in the coastal rainforest are getting lots and lots. we jokingly say you can't use the moss on the trees to find north, because the trees have moss on all sides :) And whatever you do, don't leave your car parked for more than 2 weeks...

Hows the snow in Halifax these days? :D

Hey Rick, that's a good shot with the speeding car. Maybe there's a few cases of some illegal booze in the back! You are really doing a super job there. Some small trees added to the scene would look perfect I think. One sees them in many of the ditches here. Guess that means I'll have to put some in place some day.

Good one from you as well Michael. It's nice to see the old steamer with those coaches. All you guys doing the steam era are doing a great job and I enjoy looking at what you've accomplished.

I've been pretty busy the last while but here's one from me. It's pretty much the same location as the last one but looking west this time.
