The Alabama & Southeastern RR WIP Thread (Large Screenies)

E429 came screaming through Autumnville with A&SE 6308 on the point, followed by 8202 and 1901. The first 7 shots are in Autumnville, starting at the Autumnville Diamond and working our way to the South Yard. Then the last 3 are from the uncompleted area south of Autumnville. I also took the opportunity to test out davesnow's new 73' centerbeams.

Agreed. It's a shame that there are only 6 units running around the A&SE system wearing the old black scheme. I'll model all of them. They are

SD31-2's 1901 and 1902 (1901 in OLS)
SD49's 8909 and 8922
SD42-3 7176
GP38-2 5027

I can model 1902, 7176, and 5027 on the prjindigo units I've been using, but the SD49's were bought new from EMD and will require a custom model (already in the works). When EMD advertised the 50 series, they advertised the GP/SD50 and the GP/SD49. All but the SD49 were actually built. In my fake history, the A&SE purchased 30 (8900-8929) new from EMD in 1985, their first new engines. They performed well on the A&SE, so the UP bought 50 new. They would be sold off to the A&SE in 2007.

Can you leave some in UP paint(I'm a big UP fan, fictional or not), I'd also like to say I-Rail bought some from the A&SE in 2008 when they started purchasing a fleet, I started a GP39(I-Rail), it needs some work though (love prjindigo's units).

EDIT: Also, will the slugs be released?

The slugs will be released whenever I get around to asking CG permission to release them. No, none will be left in UP I'm afraid, but I can add that we sold off 15 SD49's to I-Rail, and painted them up for them before we shipped them off.

Well guys today's the last day that the route will be in my hands for work, starting tomorrow, the Alabama Division will be in conrailfan1999's hands. After I get home from vacation I'll be back to work laying the track on the Gulf Shores High Line. Once that's done (I have 26 more miles of track to lay), it'll be off to Bluewater for scenery. Once that's done, I'll have a clean slate for another route. I haven't decided which of the three remaining divisions I'll do, so I'll put it up for vote. I'll list the divisions and their features.

Atlantic Division: Biggest of the 5, a fun single/double track line with lots of towns and scattered yards & industries
Florida Division: Second smallest, but it's the mother of all industrial routes. Single track mainline, and a switchman's paradise.
Georgia Division: In the middle in terms of size, it has single/double track mainline, very scenic, plenty of great railfan spots and a handful of industries and yards here and there.

Take your pick, I'll be waiting.

Florida Division

K, I'll get you our logo and paint scheme (if you plan on skinning them)...

Yes I plan on skinning them. Just PM me the logo and paint scheme. Should I do any mesh mods for passenger service? Also, gotta agree with you on the Fl. Division, I love switching!

While we're on the topic of the SD49, here she is:

Thank you! Yeah it can be a pain, I plan on either skinning it and sending it to Blender for poly reduction, or sending it to Blender for poly reduction and a proper map. Doesn't matter right now, I'm taking out in a few hours for a vacation and I'll get back late Sunday. Conrailfan will handle the updates and any questions until I get back.

A&SE Alabama divison v4 is now under way! In this version I am doing scenery on a 20 mile stretch south of Autumville as well as finishing up the town of Autumville. So far I have about 4 miles of textures done south of the yard! Pics are comming soon one I finish a few scenes!

So, I am doing some weathering for the A&SE, here's what I got so far (each screenie shows the original and the weathered, I think you can tell the difference):

Very nice! Well guys I'm back. I'm working on giving the prjindigo SD40-2 a major resolution upgrade, then I'll put it back in A&SE maroon and grey. It'll also have arn (once I figure out how) and I'll also throw in A&SE 6899, one of the few patched units on the A&SE. It's painted in FURX green and silver with A&SE patches.

I'm doing it by hand using gimp, I converted it to 2048 x 2048 and I'm now redrawing the details. I don't know how to bake textures with gimp, but if I figure out how I'll be sure to add that.

It'll also have arn (once I figure out how)

You'll have to create a new mesh for the ARN in Max, gMax, or Blender and have the textures line up over the existing mesh in the right places. Your new ARN mesh needs to be named "default" in the config and the existing mesh for the loco can be renamed something else (like loco or GP40 or whatever). I did it for one of McHawkman's boxcars once. Of course numbers on boxcars are at 0, 90, 180, and 270. Locos are going to be tougher with numbers at 90 and 270 for the sides and odd angles for the numberboards. Good luck with it!
