Textures in TRS09

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the information regarding the new 09 textures.
"50 new textures at 7MB each = 350MB" OK so far !!
Does this mean when using these textures that the poly count is going to be very high and therefore affect frame rates ?
I hope this is not the case because it would be a shame to restrict the use of anything new because of performance issues.:o

Whether or not you see a performance hit when running a route that contains the new 2009 high res textures depends on your hardware.
If your video card is fast enough, and has enough memory for the increased color depth, you will probably not see a hit, but if you're running bare-bones just squeaking by then you may notice slower frame rates when in an area of the route that has a lot of the high-res textures.

That said, you may get a hit when you are in an area that has a lot of objects, regardless of the type. It all depends on how fast your system can redraw the screen as you move.

The key to good performance is to keep the complexity of the route reasonable. You will notice on most of the routes that come with Trainz there aren't a lot of objects (buildings, trees, etc) in any area.
I have a huge route I am building, and am planning to keep the object count low, while putting my detail in the railroad itself; signals, etc.

You can do a lot of tweaking with TS2009, as was the case in the previous versions.
For example, don't max draw distance, scenery detail, and texture detail so high that your frame rates suffer.

I love the high detail of the new TS2009 textures, but a compromise is always required to achieve the best overall game play.

have fun!

Thanks for the info. I knew of the objects causing low frame rates but fortunately I have a fairly good pc and do not suffer too much - I do like good scenery and trackside to look "real" so will experiment with the new textures.
Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year.
