Texture errors - please explain

Can someone please explain to me in laymans terms what does this mean and how complicated or simple they are to correct, or do I need specialised tools.
I need to learn more about this aspect of trainz.

Error: Unable to load primary texture 'black top.bmp' for texture file 'black top.texture.txt'.
Error: Binary conversion failed for texture resource 'black top.texture.txt'.

If you can find one, yes. If not, you can delete the related .texture.txt file, but be aware that this may result in a blank/white texture.

Be aware that sometimes deleting the related .texture.txt does not repair the error. Your best bet would be to try creating at texture first using any photo-editing program such as Gimp, Paint.net, PaintShop Pro, or Photoshop.

Easy way to check is remove the texture.txt file then open in PEV's mesh viewer and see if anything is missing, if there is then you need the image file.
If however there is nothing visibly missing commit the asset and if no errors the image and texture.txt isn't needed.
If there is still an error but you can't see it in Mesh viewer, put the texture.txt back and edit it to point at any image file. Sometimes there appears to be a reference to an image in the IM that isn't actually visible. Could be a couple of polys or vertices that had been textured at some point and got left behind when modifying part of the mesh but are not actually visible.

Worth mentioning that quite a few of the DLS repairs have had additional files added to solve this problem, when on my local fixes, all that was needed was to delete the texture.txt. Thinking ahead, this may come back to bite people, if N3V tighten up the checking to include textures not referenced or used by the IM, which may happen, given the additional unused tga's and bmp's and texture.txt files that have been included in quite a few older assets that do absolutely nothing other than perhaps add additional load on the game engine.
