TANE Beta pushed back a month :(

...Well if its after the due date, then there goes my Christmas present...

Your Christmas present and a the potential Christmas present for a lot of others, who maybe don't visit the forums or even have Trainz at the moment.

Commercially N3V will be well aware of the need to capture a slice of the pre-Christmas market for 'games' and will aim for some kind of production release before that deadline, with free updates to follow.

Itareus, you make a good point. It's all well and good to profess that N3V should take their time and issue a fine product, but while that is metaphysically true it is false in practice. Those of us who at some point in our lives worked in retail sales know that unless you are selling medical items, beer, or food, things people must have:hehe:, the quarter beginning with January is dead. If you don't lay by a stash of money to carry you through that period you will be applying for Food Stamps. December is sometimes referred to as the Fifth Quarter because of the volume of sales during that period. That is when you want to make a new release. Beginning with January the consumers will be living on bread and water to pay down the credit card debt they ran up for the parties and gift giving they did in December. T:ane will be ushered in to largely empty game stores and by the time people come back to the stores in April or May it will be passe and on a shelf in the back of the store where only die hard Trainz fans will find it.

The folks at N3V know this, even if they won't say it directly, because they are dropping one of the aspects of the thing so as to roll something out. I'm pretty sure there will be a release of a good but perhaps not full featured product sometime in the first week of December at the latest.

Not bothered if it's late or not, personally I'm quite happy with the ongoing progress. Very few things I was ever involved in testing actually made the first planned release date.
Worth noting that those who contributed the most money are already involved with Testing anyway, no one seems to be complaining.

Yeah, pretty much agree with Clam!

Good Morning All
As noted in our kickstarter update ( this can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...lator-a-new-era-create-drive-operate-sh/posts ), the beta has been pushed back so as to allow us to provide a feature complete beta. However, as noted, those who will receive 'beta' access will also have access to the final stage of the pre-beta if they choose to have a go at this.

We are still looking at the initial release to be on time, however as noted we are now going to leave the interlocking towers for a free update, so as to give us the time and resources to work toward completion on time.

Regards

Thanks for the info, Zec!

Exactly, N3V are only delaying the start of the beta, that does not necessarily mean that the release is going to be delayed at this stage.

It has been estimated that His birthday was in all actuality, most probably in the summer months ... Christmas in July is OK with me

Well, at least it gives me another month to consider which 64bit Windows computer to buy to run T:ANE beta. My current 32bit Windows 7 desktop will simply not be up to the job.

Very true, Bernie. We all, well most of us here, forget that N3V is essentially a retail company and needs this revenue to get through the tight times. In the past I worked in the graphics and printing industries. We had our Christmas in July as they say not because of Christmas advertising campaigns, but that was when our cash was flowing after the truly dead period between January and the middle of April due to first quarter blues, taxes, and budgets. August then tightened up as summer vacations set in and people spent their money on vacations instead of paying for their typesetting and Photostats. September to December was busy because the world ended on December 31st. So the cycle went and still seems to today.

I don't really mind when it comes. But please let's not have any more 1GB patches. Keep the patches short, each one addressing a smaller group of faults, rather than one long-delayed update that overwrites the whole game.
