T:ANE or stick with TRS12?

I had TANE on my old PC and felt no desire to switch over from TS12 (up to 2015 the best version of Trainz, though it never seems to get the credit it deserves.) In December I got my new PC with a GTX1070 inside and I have to admit, TANE looks and runs great, so I will be making the switch. As an original contributer to the crowd funding exercise for TANE, I'm pleased to see it finally all coming together and look forward to SP2.

TANE is OK if one has the computing power to run it. It's quite disturbing that TANE needs that much computing power to run satisfctorily, it's indicative of slack, inefficient and lazy programming routines!

If your rig takes it I might suggest putting more memory than 16 if you can it's not a bad idea also unlocked if I recall correctly means that your cores are opened some of the CPUs that were locked didn't use all the cores and I believe that's what that means.

Locking and unlocking usually means whether or not the CPU can be run at a higher speed - specifically more clock pulses per second ("overclocking") and therefore more operations carried out each second. Locked CPUs cannot be overclocked and run at higher speeds - unlocked CPUs can. While it may seem to be a great idea to speed up an unlocked CPU (faster gaming, impress your friends, etc), the motherboard and other chipsets in your system may not support the higher speed rating and there can be issues with overheating.

Also, make sure you have adequate ventilation when you OC your CPU. It runs much hotter and can really do some damage if it's not well ventilated. Make sure your case offers lots of vents or remove the side panels from the case.

TRS12 Maybe

I still can't decide whether to buy T:ANE to replace TRS12. Up to now I have formed the impression that there's nothing much to be gained and I might as well wait until the 2020 version or whenever a complete revision of Trainz is released, rather than pay for some minor tweaks.

What's the current experience of those who have had both versions?

I think you can stick with TRS12. I have played it for years but the graphics and all of the contents are nice that you can still be with it, since there are many new content available, and its not yet "really" outdated so it will be nice if you stick with TRS12 with the 16:9 format.

It will be nice if you stick with TRS12 since its not "very" outdated, and the graphics are nice too, so I think TRS12 (with 16:9 format)will be good to stick with.(sorry I just rewrote this)

Why put more than 16 gigs in? Have you perfmon evidence to support this statement? Mine seems to run fine with 12 gigs and I suspect it only uses 6.

Thanks John

Am running 8 gig and TANE runs fine, TANE is all about the graphics card. Runs well on a regular HD.

Invest in a really good video card.

Nothing will improve how TS12 looks or runs.

I bought TANE Deluxe edition 6 months ago and it refuses to load on any pc I've tried so will stick with TS12
