Surveyor: Some Downloaded Items Appear Red in Object Pick List

Occasionally in Surveyor, I run across an item in an object pick list which is red. These red items cannot be instantiated.

I guess I can recognize that this red color means there is a problem, but I have not a clue how to identify the problem - let alone how to fix it.

Has anyone got information on this?

Thanks,

Wes

Hi Wes,

This means, as you've discoverd that the asset has errors. In some cases the errors are really easy to fix. The author, for example typed something incorrect in the configuration file, and this caused an error. Other times it may have something to do with a texture file. The file is either missing, or won't load. There are various ways of fixing these. Then there are those errors that can't be fixed due to script errors, missing or faulty mesh objects, etc.

To view the errors, right mouse button click on the object and view errors.
To edit the asset, right mouse button click on it, and choose open or edit in explorer. This will open up a Windows Exporer window with the asset's contents listed. The config files can be edited in Notepad, and the texture files can be edited in Gimp, PhotoShop, PaintShop Pro, or some other photo/graphics editing program.

I hope this helps to at least get you started in the direction you want to go.

John
