Yes, they are a very common sight on any non-electrified line across Italy (islands included). The ones depicted in the screenshot bear the old livery used up to the late '90s.

Colorado71, where can I get that bridge?

The bridge name is Cernavoda Bridge - Bridge King Carol I from Romania. It crosses the Danube on the mainline Bucharest - Constantza. It's available on DLS. Search for username colorado71 :)
