Hi guys :) ,

A little trip down memory lane, back to the 70s and 80s ...
We're in Hoek van Holland, in the southwest corner of the Netherlands :

This international station welcomed ferries from Great Britain, which connected directly with a wide variety of international trains :
On the destination plates of the carriages, which come in all colors and nationalities, you could read destinations like Ljubljana, Zagreb, Beograd, Skople, Thessaloniki, Athenes, Warszawa, Moskwa, etc ...
On the screenshot, you can see the D215 "Rhein Express" train ready to depart for Innsbruck (available in "Nederland 7.0" on the DLS), made up of German carriages in all colors .
Behind it, Stena Lines ferries provide service to the port of Harwich and London .

As soon as they left the station, travelers looking to stretch their legs couldn't miss the small "Hoekse Vishandel" (fish shop) selling fish and chips, "oliebollen", coffee, and "gebackjes" :

Cees Hofland opened his shop in 1985, seven days a week . Until late at night, you could enjoy a bite to eat there, after the beach, or before catching the train back to Rotterdam .
In 1993, the last international train departed ...
In 2019, the Rotterdam-Hoek van Holland line was converted into the Rotterdam-Schiedam-Hoek van Holland rapid transit line, providing direct access to the beach from Rotterdam .
The subway construction proved fatal to Cees Hofland's shop, which was demolished at the end of 2019 after 34 years in business .
The station building (partly visible on the first screenshot), which was preserved, now houses... a Mexican restaurant and an Asian restaurant, whose windows overlook the subway platform  😩 🙄 ...
Luckily, there's TrainZ to keep those good times alive : I fell in love with the scene featuring the Vishandel, which is now on the DLS, a testament to an atmosphere that's gone forever ...
