Scenery – let’s get real!

Thanks Gordon.

It would be nice, if you are willing and have the time, to share some of your work techniques.

I'm sure many of us would be delighted to see how some of your stunning desert scenes scenes have been built up with those lovely textures and marvellously well matched assets.

Cheers
Casper

I'll second that.

Canyon..

When texturing rock formations always think about the natural formations..It doesn't hurt to study some what about nature and how rock formation are formed..Then you can always apply certain techniques..The smaller the circle(Brush) the better off your are when you are applying textures..too big a circle and start to pick a pattern look..Learn how rotate textures..Set up a base board and Pratice, practice and then practice somemore..Don't ever be afraid to try something new it might turnout Beautiful..

@Euphod: Yes you are right about the mist..Thank you for the comment..

@misterchugg:Thank you for the kind words..I like doing this kind of stuff, it offers a challenge to me..

How did I miss this thread? The next time someone says Trainz doesn't look real, send them here.

As a sometime creator of objects, the texturing of the ground around them and the background has always been my weak point. I usually dismiss it by saying that first I'll place all the objects and tracks and once those are finished, I'll come back and texture the landscape. Of course it's never really finished so my avoidance technique works.

Thanks for showing how easy it can be done and how good the results can be too, although I still think it helps if you have a bit of artistic talent. For some of the artistically challenged, we can dream.

well well Martin lets get really real

casper i not intent to highjack this thread at all but i have to counter Martin's post or just make a little remark kind off.
Martin long time ago years i tried to contact you informal and made kind posts on your stuff you made and shared with us for which i am still thankfull!
I agree many post go unnoticed unless accidently see it or start fleeing the forums posts but I cannot fathom you never ever saw my thread with the most real picts for more than one year using of course TS12.
I know Casper and he is a dear Trainzer friend so no shortcomings but most of his experiences is of TRS2004 and techniques many of them make a lot of sense and needed for Ts2004 untill 2009.
when you have experience likeme of well over 10k hours on my CPR Mountain Sub 2012 entirely native and using 'only' dls objects you will find out that the 3D scenery is there and not need to be enhanced or manipulated to make it loook 3D.
Casper no i am not attacking you just comparing 2 different race horses YOU do very well with TRS2004 and would love TS12 but have to adapt a lot things not to do anymore trust me.

@ Bob well done but PLEASE get rite of the ugly 2D grasslumps.brushes and take descent 3D objects pofig or others available.

Martin by the way my thread is "Canadian Rocky Mountains 2011'

Roy;)

There's nothing hijacked about this, Roy. These pictures show the differences between TRS2004 texturing/textures, trees, versus those now available with the latest version.

I really like the way you blend the tunnel into the cut. This is one of the most difficult things to get right in Trainz even today.

John

Mc Donald tunnel West

Thanks John, never intent to do so just share what 3D really means by my standards and way of working.

As pleased as I am at what I create for my scenery, I come across threads like this and am humbled and floored by how well you more experienced builders are. All I can say is, well... umm... I can't even think of anything to say as this stuff leaves me speechless in it's sheer awesomeness.

well lets get really real means for me is to make TS12 look like TS2014, ahead of what most trainzers and N3V thought was possible.
If you wanna see more of this real 3D visit my thread Canadian Rocky Mountains 2011 and than you understand fully what we are talking about.

i fully agree and applaud Casper on his initiative starting this great thread but we should clearly differentiate Between trs2004,2006 up to 2009 even 2010 for a certain level and how TS12 handles things or allow you to make realisitc landscapes, sceneries, railways, cities etc.
so dear Casper forgive me the intrusion but well meant explanation of what said before.
Hope to welcome you soon on Ts12 and look back with proudness on what you achieved on TRs2004!

ill leave these here, donno if it will help anyone or not. And half the stuff I made up lol. Feels a bit weird talking up your own screenshots like this. Anyway :)

Good one Scratchy also fill corners to create extra depth and especially let tracks start in bottom corners to get bigger impact and little details as you said to distract or make one focused on even if they not want too.

Rgerads,

Roy
