Sad news of a departing friend

Narrow gauge or nothing
Hi all,
I bring you all some very shocking and sad news. Norm Whitney, aka NWhitney, had a heart attack and died last January, 2009.
He and I had been working on a number of projects together and he has helped out many others. Although he has never released anything of his own, he has had his 'hands' in many works that have been released to the DLS.
It saddens me deeply to think that he will no longer be in our presents.

I'm sorry...

Rick

It's always a terrible event when someone passes, even if they were just an aquaintance from the forums. I suppose it is a preview of our own mortality.

Thanks for telling us Rick, Norm was a steam fanatic and always willing to help anyone with his knowledge and experience of the game over the years, he was a true gentleman on the forum, one of America's veteran Trainzers, it's a real shock and very sad news, our condolencies to his family, may he rest in peace now.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

I agree with all, it is always sad to lose a member of the Trainz community. :( :( :'( My condolences go out to NWhitney's family and friends.

As all the above said, this is very sad news, and it makes me very sorry and sad to hear.
It's a sad reminder that life can end way to fast for us all, and that we should make the best out of it.

My heart goes out to his family, and his friends, I knew him only very briefly through Internet, but he always left me with a good feel afterwords.

He will be missed by many, and once more we as Trainzers also have to suffer the loss of one of us. :(

Best wishes and thoughts to his family and friends, and to all the other people out there too.

Linda

Oh man...I guess that would explain why he hasn't been around. He seemed like a great guy, and will be sorely missed. My prayers are with his family.

It's always sad to hear of such a dedicated man leaving our realm forever. I pass on my condolences to his family.

I am sure Norm will not have all the problems with Trainz where he is now.

Pete

I also pass on my sorrow for any Trainz member that passes !
Condolences to the family .

Another Trainzer and a Train lover heads to the railroad in the sky. It seems the last two years we have lost a good many of brilliant, nice people to that railroad.

I wish the family can get through this time of trouble and maybe one more see the light that is at the end of this sad tunnel.

Farewell Norm Whitney, I hope you are enjoying a ride in your favorite steamer up there.

He was working with me on the CTC and then his emails stopped. This explains why. He was one of the very best and we will miss him.

Peter

One of his last e-mails to me was about that CTC thing you guys were working on, Peter.
He had just finished up a model he had made for me and said he had to get back to the CTC. (Although, I had to texture it for him. LOL)

I'm gonna really miss him.:'(

One thing we must be grateful for is that a heart attack is a quick way to go and he would not have suffered much, if at all. We all have to go at some time, there is no workaround for that. How old was he? I have a feeling he turned 80 in Jan sometime.

I'll raise a glass to him tonight.

Peter

Oh, gosh no, Peter. He was a young man. He had just filed for unemployment because his job ended for the winter as a surveyor for building roads in Jersey.
I'd have to go through my e-mails but I believe he was in his late 40's. 48 stands out in my mind for some reason. That's why I'm so shocked.
We would tease each other about our ages. I'd call him a kid and he'd call me an old fart.

I'm going to really miss him...

:(

I don't why I had the idea he was older. That is indeed tragic, a third of his potential life taken from him. Death has to be expected and accepted for people over 70 but not at 48.

My condolances to his family and friends, may he rest in peace and get to ride on whatever loco he desires.
