Running TS2009 with Windows 7?

Hello all,

This might be a dumb question, but I just recently purchased a new computer that runs Win7 and was wondering if I would still be able to run TS2009 on it without any future problems. I know on all of the sites I've read it says the game is only compatible with Vista and XPsp2; does this mean I should buy TS2010 or would I be okay sticking with TS2009? Thanks so much.

I have W7 64 Bit and TRS2009 on my PC and it basically runs fine except for the usual TRS2009 problems like the draw distance. There are a couple of other problems like some older signals not working properly (a TRS2009 problem) and a strange colour effect in Water but I don't think the last one is TRS2009 related - more likely my PC which I think need a new Mobo.

I have also just got a new computer and have installed 09 without problems. You will need to patch it up to 40400 before you put any content into it. You can then download the 40400 patch from http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=53076 but dont install.
You will need to down load the August 2009 directx files, Just type it into google, and have it install and then you can run the 40400 update patch.

that August 2009 directx wont work if you are using windows 7 as it has directx 10 files in it ... i sort of found that out when i tried to patch my 09 ... am currently running a non-patched TS09 on win7 with about 3000 downloads with no problem, my version is something like trainz version 3 (build 38411(i think as build no's are a bit blurred)) .. lol

I have DirectX 11 on mine - I don't know how or why, it's just what the Nvidia Control Panel says I have.

i don't really bother about what my nvidia says i have ... i just go by what the games say i need to have ... and i know that i have the best with win7 ultimate (alienware) ... :hehe:

Apologies if I have stepped on your toes here, or offended you.

Shane, no apologies are needed and no toes have been stepped on, you are just giving out information just like I have.

The only thing that would be nice is that maybe some here would do a little more research before claiming there is an issue. I mean we are all on the internet and usually 15 minutes of research will prove that many of these so-called issues are not issues at all.

I agree - reminds me of the saying 'making a mountain out of a molehill'.

I've got one suggestion for Microsoft though - auto-updating of DirectX (it would save a lot of hassle and error message confusion)

I don’t think those of us who are serious about keeping their systems properly updated would even use it, as it is turning off Windows “auto updating” is one of the first things I do when installing a fresh OS. Updating DirectX to me is just part of system maintenance.

Same here - I was actually thinking the auto-update (possibly via Microsoft Update) would be for people who are unsure of how to update DirectX manually (even with step by step instructions), or who don't have the time to do it.

I think that’s just it “people who are unsure of how to update DirectX manually or who don't have the time to do it” are most likely, as this forum proves, not going to have much success running Trainz or any other game for that matter on their PC’s.

If it’s not a DirectX related issue it’s usually something else. As I’ve said before if you don’t take the time to properly set up a PC to run games then expect to have issues and or poor performance, it’s just the nature of beast and the reason why game consoles are so popular.

I agree fully there - that's probably why people run into so many problems with PC games, and as you said, why console games are popular.

It's good to know there are people who share the helping spirit - it helps people who need the help (even people who have used Trainz for several years run into trouble (to be honest, even I run into problems sometimes))

That’s true but as you’ll find out in most of these “train game” forums you can’t help someone that won’t help themselves.

I’ve found that you can provide information, links, you name it, but the majority of them are only interested in one thing, being led by the hand to instant gratification without having to think for themselves. It’s like a “I want my Choo-Choo Train’s and want them now” mentality, lol.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, that's one of the small problems you get with help forums - people can sometimes take them for granted (even I have had that problem (especially with that DirectX problem - I found it is easier to create one thread then post links to it, rather than posting the same info (potentially) hundreds of times.

I am also running windows 7 with 2009 and the download worked fine. I got mine from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...4b-00d1-474e-b7b1-442d8712d553&displaylang=en and the patch from 40400 also worked fine.

stagecoach:

I always recommend using the latest version of DirectX to fix performance and possible security problems.

The link to do so is further up the thread (in response to the same post you quoted)
