Hello

RSDL have announced Rail Simulator 2: Railworks – The evolution of Rail Simulator, link below or read below:

I appreciate that some of you have been waiting (patiently) for the promised announcements concerning Rail Simulator. This brief note outlines the key points of our strategy - we’ll be elaborating this in the coming weeks.

Over the past few months, we have been planning the future direction of Rail Simulator and as part of that process, we have analysed your feedback and assessed our position in the competitive marketplace. Based on this analysis, I am pleased to announce that we will be releasing Rail Simulator 2: RailWorks (working title!) in June 2009.

RailWorks will represent a new approach to simulation. Instead of providing a product, we are attempting to provide you with a platform on which you can build and operate virtual railways. We will continue to support and develop this platform over the coming months and years, adding new features to make the simulated environment ever more compelling. We will also be focusing on a number of facilities to allow you to share and even trade elements of your virtual world with other users.

Unlike Rail Simulator, RailWorks will include all the tools that were previously downloaded separately. In addition, for those of you who are online, we also plan to make use of Valve’s ‘Steam’ technology to simplify the process of supporting and upgrading the product. Don’t worry, we’ve worked hard to ensure compatibility with content created with Rail Simulator and will continue to make backward compatibility a key priority.

There will be one world-wide version of RailWorks that will include improved versions of all the routes currently in the European and North American version of Rail Simulator. In addition, we will have new routes and new locomotives along with new scenarios and significant graphical advancements. I don’t want to say too much about the new routes now, other than that one is North American, one European and one UK based. These are in the later stages of development and all are looking very impressive. I’m confident that you are going to enjoy them all.

With the launch of the RailWorks platform, we continue to demonstrate our long-term commitment to the rail simulation community. We have listened to your feedback and created RailWorks to better meet your needs.

So, to summarise: I appreciate that we’ve been quiet (thanks for your patience!), we’ve spent the last couple of months restructuring the business, realigning our product releases to meet the changed competitive environment and establishing new ways of distributing the product. Rail Simulator 2: RailWorks will provide a single platform for all of our customers with an exciting set of new content and features.

Everyone at RSDL remains committed to this hobby and going forward we want to work with as many of you as possible to make an even better product. In the coming weeks we’ll tell you more about:
  • The new routes
  • The new locomotives
  • The new distribution channels
  • The reorganized company (but don’t worry, Derek and the boys will still need biscuits, so keep the supplies coming!)
  • The improvements we’ve made
  • The New features for sharing content
Tim Gatland

Not impressed. Who knows though. They might actually care about people who don't live in the UK this time, but I doubt it, and I am going to hold onto my money.

I know I'm the only one who thinks this way but if the attention to detail matches the detail in this official web announcement, then I'm not too excited. I mean, use a spell checker for Pete's sake! Using a spell checker is like using a beta tester in that it shows the writer is not assuming they've done everything correctly.

Yes Tim Gatland of RSDL needs a spell checker,:hehe: god knows how many bugs it will bring.

Trainz all the way here.:)

Where did i hear that before ? :D

Thats the consequence of having a team of 2 men and a horsehead ( or how is that expression in english :) )

Hi Euphod
Whilst I am not a fan of Rail Simulator, I would like to point out analysed and
summarise are both correct in UK english, although , analyzed and summarize
are acceptable.

Thanks Dave, but is this writer "Tim Gatland" from the UK? I'm confused.

RailWorks will represent a new approach to simulation. Instead of providing a product, we are attempting to provide you with a platform on which you can build and operate virtual railways.

A new approach? I'm sure I've heard that concept somewhere before.... can't remember where though. ;)

Mike.

I'm looking forward to it! I like a diverse palet for my simulation collection. They all offer something different in my views. Unlike most people I see in a broad view...not closed minded...so I'm not on Trainz deffensive band party.
Yes I've been offered the ticket...I considered it because the zoo was closed today. Trainz is a good simulator but RailSim is not bad either.
Thank you AHSAN for announcing this, I'm glad to hear it...my ears are actually open...

Just my 2 cents...
Woody.

Sounds interesting, and I know I will not be considering further versions of Trainz, so if user friendly may be worth me considering it to see what functions it has, and what and how, objects can be made drivable. B

I too found that part of their statement rather déjà vu. :o I wonder, how soon after it is released will there be complaints that there is not enough new content, routes, etc.? :hehe:

I agree, he needs to be consistent in his spelling.

Maybe Auran could use a spell checker too. Independent has been around for so long, why does Auran still persist with independant?

A spell checker on cell phones would be great for all those kids out there using SMS. The poor spelling, and acronyms used only exacerbate the problem.

Auran will just have to live with their independant.

Pete

This thread will end up closed.
Here I am on this band wagon again, They've sold alot of tickets for this band wagon, of course they sold alot of tickets for the Titanic too.

About KRS.....

Long ago, when MSTS2 was the talk of the town (nice joke he, haha and one more ha)
I was writing, wondering and asking about tools ...
Given indeed you have Max, with KRS it was for me the first time I had the courage to make some content.
And if I can do it, anybody can....
Be sure: this is very important for new simmers.
Why? You don't depend on others....

For the first time we got support and very good support from the KRS-people in this case, the people who made the sim.
In other cases you depend and only depend on the forums.
It was new to me and I guess we all liked that not?
You know: I am grateful for this kind of support.
Because it is not common use these days.
Some people among us got even personal e-mails with solutions.
So please, don't talk to me about the cost we pay for this game.
It doesn't matter to me and I don't care.

And please don't take things too serious...
Finally, it's a game.
But I only hope, and it's a easy or simple one,
that the new game will run smooth on my pc.
That's it

I am using at this moment the Download Manager
Current Speed : 4.04 Kbps.....
