RSDL Announce: Rail Simulator 2: Railworks – The evolution of Rail Simulator

Mike,
Mind you, I own Rail Simulator. I play Rail Simulator. I am proud of my Rail Simulator.

My defense is that this is the Trainz Discussion Forum and if it were meant for Rail Sim, it would have it in the title.
Around here, we best keep RailSim to ourselves, it brings up a lot of arguement.

Cheers,
Woody

sorry, i apologize! but, looking at 'what whose name we dare not say', i see that the new version is out but that it looks like "that which we hadn't said nuthin' about, no sir" from before.

really, it's that i'm pissed about portals and why one portal works fine and another does the classic 'goes backwards'.

anyway, this is prototype trains and trains are so cool.

RS2 - A Fresh Start?

Hi, Chaps

The best thing about RS2 (in my opinion) is that it's re-ignited my interest in Train Sims again. Although I'll always have a soft-spot for Trainz, the game and this community has become a bit flabby around the edges!

Gone are the days of real excitement when the clever-clogs of the community pushed the envelope in search of new and ever more ingenious ways to improve things. Now we've got so much stuff in the DLS that we don't know what to do with it.

We've been spoilt and as a result we've lost that vital, hungry spark that once made this forum a pretty vibrant place.

So along comes shiny new RS2. It doesn't matter whether you think it's a better game than TRS; what's important is, does it push your particular buttons? In my case, it might. I say that simply because I want to experience the thrill of seeing something develop again.

Sure, Rail Simulator had some bugs - but so does TRS. The difference (from a certain point of view) is that TRS - in its present form - is almost at the end of the line in development terms. Apart from the odd "nip and tuck", we won't see anything new until they take the game engine back to the drawing board. When that happens perhaps we'll be able to return to the days of raw enthusiasm that we witnessed 3 or 4 years ago.

Can't come soon enough if you ask me!

:0)

I have been using Railworks for over a week. While Railworks isn't perfect, it worked better than Rail Simulator. I have to learn how to create content for Railworks. Creating scenery objects is easier than creating locomotives. Railworks already got two small patches through Steam website. The forum and download section were gone from the official website. I hope that development of TRS2009 and/or next version of Trainz isn't stopped for any reason.

Think maybe that is a little strong, but spend enough time in the RS World Editor as I've been doing recently and you do begin to appreciate the strong points of Surveyor. This is particularly so where terrain texture is concerned, anyone following the latter part of this UKTS thread: http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=93826
can only imagine my increasing frustration at the semi-official response to what I felt was a valid point. Terrain textures don't transition abruptly.

Time to dust off TC3 methinks, particularly with those lovely Mark One sleeping cars to drool over.

I was kidding. I didn't get the other one because the UP ES44s are painted wrong, and there is that random black one?
