RSDL Announce: Rail Simulator 2: Railworks – The evolution of Rail Simulator

Rush to judgement....

If I were on trial and the the forum members were the jury deciding my fate based on a Majority Rule, I would be found guilty. While Trainz may be good, it certainly is not without its problems. Perhaps we should wait to pass judgement on a product based on its actual capabilities and not what we 'think' it may or may not consist of - pun intended!

Now that is funny.

I'm not sure about sim fans, but I do know that Trainz is the sim of choice for many "Real Railroaders". The same railroaders that have tried RS, think it's a joke.

The one good thing to come out of this is, how does the saying go?

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

funnier is your posts mate....real railroaders? yea, using trainz?

when you reach adulthood you will find out for yourselves....rs is clearly much better and the best we got....but enjoy your broken trainz kids!

rip auran

:hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

Yeah, I'm a 50 year old engineer for NS and I use 2006 and 2009. I know aodghost who is a conductor for UP, 007007 is a conductor for CP. I could keep going. I know of NS railroaders who use Trainz, Ghost knows of UP RRers that use it.

I think you should grow up, if you don't like Trainz, why do you come here and post, unless you're showing your immaturity.

Thats true when you use the standard build in tunnels , but is to overcome when you make your own .

Is that using the AJS kits which punch a hole in the terrain?

I may give that a try in my next TRS route particularly if it is the Bralos as there are tunnels everywhere. That's probably a topic for a separate discussion however given the "tech" exists to do it, it's a shame Auran can't incorporate the feature in the basic package. TS-X perhaps?

I dont use the AJS kit , but it is indeed punching a hole in the terrain . I use smaller entrances than the usual ( they cover not so much open space ) , so with dem terrain it sometimes difficult to chose with square to punch , and its possible that you need to place the rail 1 m more to the left or the right , but you can keep the direction , and you dont have those ugly big entrance blocks.

Little more information on RS2.

Interview

Sounds more like a tidying up operation than a new version to me.

It looks like Auran and RSDL are struggling with much the same set of problems. How do you take a deeply niche product forward given a limited set of resources?

Be interesting to see who is the first to accuse RSDL of re-packaging the same game with some new content. (A complaint levelled at Auran in other places, as well as here)

Mike.

This is Trainz (TRS), people. Why are we talking about Rail Simulator, hmmm?
Don't abandon Trainz for RS!
  :( :'( :o

And maybe make it platform independent, so as to include the Apple and Linux mobs :D
Also there are enough 64bit OS out there now for a 64bit version.
First one that does that gets my money :hehe:

I use Linux 64bit only now and as wine is still 32bit I have some trouble getting Trs to work and CMP will not as it depends on M$ .NET :'(

Cheers David

I am bored with the boats and barges in Trainz so just been looking at the boats and wherries in RS, so come June may investigate further, depending on the Blender exporter compatibility in RS, for which I downloaded the script files. Before anybody posts, of course I am refer to my own sailing ships and barges in Trainz. B

I would still like to see a sim that incorporates the best features of all the existing ones.

As an aside, I was getting a bit fed up with track sections "disappearing" as I laid them on my RS route based on the Greek Bralos line (they are there as you can click the invisible section and the end gates/movement gizmo appears, just not drawn) so I decided as a diversion to start the same route off in TRS. The terrain texturing in RS is still inferior to TRS as is the palette compared to even just the built in TRS terrain textures. RS is still struggling for object (and rolling stock availability) compared to the wealth of material for TRS.

A couple of hours in Transdem stitching the maps and DEM together gave me a successful route extraction but the course of the line is "off" from where it should lie on the terrain. Probably user error on my part with the georeferencing and I shall start again by making a gpx file of the Google Earth markers for RS and using those in Transdem to plot the blue line with the maps purely as a guide.

However as mentioned previously where TRS really let me down was on starting to lay out the track. For those not familiar with the prototype the Bralos is a steeply graded mountain line with many tunnels and curves down to 300m radius in some places. This is where RS scored as you could control the curve radii quite effectively and of course no restriction on which angle (default) tunnels can be placed.

So there is a real conflict - do I build the route in TRS and take advantage of the rich availability of scenery material (not forgetting the copy and paste feature which is far more extensive than that in RS) or do I persevere in RS but with far less scenery available?

I guess as I just renewed my FCT I will carry on in TRS but ultimately would like to build the route for both sims.

The ideal is a sim which incorporates the ease of route building and availability of material afforded by Surveyor, but with proper control on curved track and improved tunnel building and the operational possibilities of the German sim Zusi which allows you to set up a timetable for an extended period and jump between trains to take them over as you wish.

Mike.

That's preposterous! Auran always changes the game!:)

Only a single man with a deep love for Trains and deep pockets besides will ever achieve the ultimate simulator!

RSDL's UK bias continues with the "new edition". The US and Europe have been generously allowed 1 new loco and route each. Meanwhile the UK has 7 locos and 4 routes. What about other parts of the world, apparently they wont get a look in. Instead of even more UK content perhaps a route from another part of the world could have been included. IMHO the US market has let down by RSDL again. If punters are to pay $70Aus for a new edition they could reasonably expect quite a bit more extra content than that. I don't expect US fans or buyers will be too happy with this I know I'm not. I'll be waiting to see exactly what has been fixed and updated before I shell out bucks for RS2.

Track Physics

Let's see who comes up with "imperfect" track so we can see the wobbles of a train as it creeps over a poorly maintained route.

Must admit I have now taken the decision to put my RS Bralos route on ice and restart the project in TRS. After a further playing around in Transdem and some more detailed georeferencing of the maps, I've now got a DEM extraction and map overlay/vector that is as it should be. There's far more resources in TRS to make a reasonable stab at a Southern European route and of course the myriad of terrain textures to choose from.

Guess I will have to deal with the sharp curves and wonky tunnels as best I can!

May I suggest...

Looking in the Archives. This "RS" subject comes up all the time and usally the thread is closed. I believe you all need to re-read "What to post in General Trainz". I have come to my senses, this is Trainz, not RailSimulator, not Fury, not any other game...just Trainz.
