Route Will Save But Session Will Not

Hello All. I've been working on a multiplayer route for TS12 and have been testing with some sessions. All of a sudden, the sessions disappeared, and I can no longer save a session. When I try, the game crashes and asks to send a report to Auran. This only happens with THIS ONE ROUTE! I can save all other sessions in all other routes just fine. What could be causing this? I have uploaded the route (NOT CLOSE TO BEING DONE) for anyone that thinks they can figure out what is wrong. I really do not want to spend much more time on the route if I'm going to have to trash it all and start over :( The route is here: http://www.jeffritter.com/TRAINZ/TPRMultiplayer.cdp If anyone can figure out the problem, fix it, and get it back to me to finish, I will be VERY grateful. I have many hours into it already planning what industries, where they will be, etc.. Again, route is NOT finished or ready for use, but I must get the sessions to work in order to be able to continue. Thank you all SO MUCH!

Hi Shane. Sorry, I sent the previous message too soon without describing the problem. Sorry. I'm just beginning to lay out the track plan, what industries, etc., so it is a LONG way from being done. I have a plan all drawn up, so I just have to get the route underway. As I said in the original question, all of a sudden, I can't save any sessions. The route saves OK, but no sessions. Not even when I save the route and it asks to save the session.... I have to say NO to the session, or it crashes the game to the SEND ERROR option. I'm wondering if it is some piece of content I have in the layout or something. hmmm When you see the route, you will see it is VERY early on, but some areas look pretty good. Thank you for any help! The route is on my own server because it is NOT ready to be downloaded and used from the DLS. However, because it is intended to eventually a multiplayer route and on DLS, ALL assets are built-in or on DLS.

Unfortunately, if you say no on the session, it will not save it.

Regarding the crash, I would check your antivirus software and make sure it's not scanning your Trainz folder.

Can you get it to save a session? I've even tried a Save As... and renamed it. See if it will work on your system. Thank you for your help!

I do too. Always have. BUT, on this route, when It tries to save the session , it crashes ! Whether I'm making a session with rolling stock, or just saving the route and it is saving the session with the route, if it saves a session AT ALL, it crashes. That's the problem :(

Yes sir. I specifically told Microsoft Security Essentials to NOT check the N3V directory in Program Files. I have tried saving a session again, and the game still crashes.

Jeff - The route and session were savable in my build 3.6 installation after I downgraded the map to build 3.6. I was able to place a loco and the AI drove it to a trackmark.

There were, at a rough guess 50% missing dependencies, many of them unknowns. 99% of the track was missing. This would seem to point to faulty content causing your inability to save a session.

Hope this helps - Trevor

Thank you both for helping. I just tried backdating the route to 3.6 and then 3.3, and the same problem occurred. I tried saving just a session, and then saving the route and allowing it to write the session. It crashed to the desktop all 3 times. Shane, the screenshot is just the SEND ERROR to Auran screen. I actually do not get any error messages, just a complete crash of TRAINZ to the desktop. Trevor, the missing assets are shocking. Everything is on DLS or built in. Mostly built in so that it would require a minimum amount of downloaded content for the multiplayer users. The track is the TSM track WWL 6 I believe, which is on the DLS. Could either one of you save the route with a new name, create a session and then put it up for me to get it, download it, and see if it works? Whatever it is, is only on this one route, so it must be something particular about it on my computer. This is SO frustrating!!!!!!! I would really like to continue working on the route and getting it out for release and multiplayer. T

Hi Jeff - What I didn't mention is that with your map in 3.6 the Surveyor window behaves differently than other routes; I cannot get the camera to stay down at ground level. When I move around the view constantly tries to float up into the air. I put this behaviour down to the difference between 3.6 and 3.7.
Also, it is not possible to downgrade a 3.6 map to 3.3 because there is a difference in the file formats between the two levels.

The approach I would take is this: Create a new installation of Trainz with no downloaded content. This could be either a fresh install and patch or a copy of the existing installation but with the user data folder emptied of content. If the latter, then a database repair would be needed to square it up.

Then import the troublesome map into the new installation and see how it behaves. This will show up any unknown dependencies. If it works then gradually add dependencies in blocks by creating a cdp file for each block. So you put all the missing textures into a block and the trees into another, and add them one-at-a-time, trying to save a session after each addition. Proceed until you find the block that causes the problem to re-appear or until the whole map is loaded and working. Keep notes of what blocks you add.

It is a long and tedious process but I can't think of any other way to isolate the problem.

Hope this helps - Trevor

Hi Shane and Trevor, Nothing has helped. I re-installed TRAINZ and still the same thing happened. When I save the session, and I click the button, it tries to save but then crashes to the desktop. SO, I started on the end of the route I was working on and started deleting baseboards working back towards where I started. Deleting a board, placing a loco, and trying to save. Finally, I went back far enough, amazingly it saved!!! Nothing was on that particular board but track, but the session saved. I was then able to do things normally. I lost about 1/4 of the route, but at least it works properly. SO, NOW I CAN CONTINUE! Will try to rebuild what I had, not sure if it will be exact or not, but will continue on. When I get all the track in and operational, I'll put out an alpha to the community to test and see what other things everyone would like. Then, will put it up on the DLS with a multiplayer session and we can test. Eventually, I'll put on DLS as a fully complete multiplayer route. Thank you both for trying to help. This has been frustrating and I still do not know the answer, but I can now continue on. Thank you guys!

Hi Jeff - Glad to hear that most of the map has been rescued. Here is another idea: Take the faulty map and delete the baseboard that you found caused the session to start saving again. If it still crashes then delete some more boards in the direction leading to where you started deleting boards. You may be able to recover the last part of the route and only have to fill in the gap.

Good Luck - Trevor
