rolling stock we're lacking?

I could use digitized copies of ORERs and railroad equipment color guide/portfolio books honestly (what's the point of spending hundreds of dollars on info that can easily be put up online)

... (what's the point of spending hundreds of dollars on info that can easily be put up online)

Pretty much the same point as spending hundreds, or THOUSANDS of dollars on Graphics/Imaging Software and Computer Hardware to "play trains"...

...It's a hobby, and some people spend tons of money on their hobbies, to solve problems that are seemingly "easily solved".

I can’t speak for other creators of Trainz content, but research is a big and time consuming part of the creation process. While the internet or www (world wide web) is a tremendous help, it is not the end all. While on some matters there is a totally overwhelming amount of information, on others there is little or no information. While it is true that knowing how to make a proper search for the given sought after item(s) is extremely important, in same cases a determination must be made as to the value or importance of what is desired over that of the time involved. Unfortunately, some things have to be accomplished without all that is desired in the finished product. It is a matter of degree of completeness. Many users will not notice that some rather insufficient item(s) is missing, but other might and you may never heard the end to their suffering over its absence. Balancing on the end of a needle is a frightening and dangerous game. Oh, the joys of content creation.

Very true majekear. Having sometimes been in the position of trying to determine details from a blurry old photo from the 1880s when little other information is available is a lot like walking a tightrope when it comes to content creation. Most Trainz folk will be happy that something new from the late 19th century has been uploaded to the DLS, but there's always the risk that someone is going to pinprick over the sometimes necessary compromises that have to be made.

Union-Pacific-8-Door-86ft-Hycube-Boxcar.jpg

when doing this 86ft hycube that I could not find in Trainz, I made a compromise by doing the data in small lines

I would be really interested in practically every American and Canadian piece of rolling stock since World War I (including private owner cars). You never know what's been on the rails. Plus i'd love to have randomized trains featuring all of that regardless of being set in an era (like a BN C636 with an NS SD70)

What I find is plans but no photo or a photo but no plans. I have done one car with just photos but I had a lot of photos. Also finding the color on pre 1940 is next to imposable.

A caboose KUID:58422:100316, I did 5 or 6 others, never found out who made them. Cars went from AA to Wabash to N&W.

building the Southern Region Line finding third rail rolling stock. some rolling stock hard to get.when you building modern Southern Region Line finding third rail.can't get some modern Southern Region rolling stock.i won't mention any class. i known what happen last time.

finding third rail rolling stock for southern region. we get less uk assets. what happen to tempest class 421.i still waiting for class 421.

looking at this list. I'll mention that it seems like Africa is missing a LOT of assets, save for ones that are essentially from 2004. another thing that's missing is operational Military Rolling stock, ie combat trains you'd see in the World Wars or such (i'm actually working on this personally, albeit extremely slowly due to texturing issues I keep having). I'd do the African stuff myself, but unfortunately I lack the skills to make models without any kinds of schematics avaliable, unfortunately the case with basically any African locomotive or rolling stock save for a few exceptions.

Still lacking quite a few UK BR era DMU's and EMU's. We have a passable 101, 105, 108 and 116/117 but no Class 120 Cross Country or 123 Inter City.
We have a couple of reasonable Hastings DEMU's but no Class 205 Hampshire or Class 207 Oxted units.
Most of the Southern EMU's still flag as faulty as they continue to have a sound dependency that was deemed illegal some years ago, but the original author never reworked the content to get round this. The 4 CIG unit was a brave early attempt but sadly looks totally wrong. In addition there is no 4 CEP/BEP or 4REP/4TC units. AC EMU's lack a few iconic types - the Class 309, 310 and 312.

Yes, some good examples there. The DEMU 'Thumpers' on the DLS look rather dated. For me the greatest omission is the BR Class 303, iconic Scottish blue train and also the 309, 310 and 312. The 309s would be top of my wish list. I've never seen anyone post about those, particularly not the 303.

Kind regards,

Gary

Still hoping someone will do an updated Northern Pacific "North Coast Limited" passenger train in green on green with "Mainstreet of the Northwest" E units. TrainzForge did some updated F units a while back, but the rest of it must be waiting for me myself to try to do modelling. That will be a while :)

;)It seems that the future of Trainz is well guaranteed after 23 odd years of nobody doing nil!!! 😂 Many would-be creators coming out on stage. Go ahead, guys, plz. fill the gaps left by lazy Trainz creators. :D

The bumping welcoming new era creator side of Alberte ;)
And your point is? Not everyone has the skills to make rolling stock, just as some people are unable to put together a route. The whole purpose of wishlists is to maybe encourage those who do have the necessary skills to have a go at making the item.

We come together as a group, where some will make routes, others 3D models and textures to populate them and others again the trains to run or drive. An effort of parts then creates the whole.

At best you are gaslighting or making a strawman argument.

I feel lazy and have no point at all for those who don't even seem to have a slight sense of humour, wrongly feel concerned, or maybe misinterpret words!!!! ;)

Enjoy your day, your point, your gaslight, your straws and your wishlist, for sure. Be my guest, thank you for commenting.

The purposedly laziest side of Alberte :D:sleep:

While I agree that we do have fewer content creators, at least ones that are active on the forums, there are probably many that make models for themselves and only themselves and never publish them. We have to remember that Trainz grew out of sharing content and the larger community that has created a large portion of has retired, or moved on either off to different things, or sadly moved off this mortal coil.

We also have a generational thing. The younger generations aren't looking so much for specialized equipment. They are looking for whatever they see outside their windows or along the trackside on a daily or frequent basis.

Herein lies the problem. The issue isn't so much that there's a lack of rolling stock and there are plenty of new pieces being added including unique ones from various parts of the world. The issue is people get stuck in a rut or follow the latest trends. We can see this with many of the fabulous payware locomotives by RRMods and Joint Rail, for example. There are so many GEVO and EMD Tier 4 locomotives.

I agree, it would be nice for content creators to update or create new old equipment but honestly, I don't see this happening any time soon.

As a non-creator, I appreciate the hard work done by the modelers and if they are selling DLC they want to maximize their market and focus on something that sells the most.
