Request for Another Sticky Thread

Hey guys, I think there should be a sticky thread for what i tell most people on the forums about installing trainz

of how to install, i mean changing it from this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Users\Auran\TS2010...

to this

C:\Auran/TS2010\...

This solves so many problems.

This would benefit so many people, and to the Auran team, maybe you should incorporate installation of future games like this.

I do not understand the construct. My start-up is:
G:\AAA Trainz\TS2012

I just copied and pasted the entire program to a new G: drive. Added the AAA to put it at the top of the Explorer list and no problems.

I agree there - the majority of info on my website for example can solve quite a few issues for several people.

I think the likely users of such advice are Windows Vista and 7 users, due to the User Account Control system.

How does this solve so many problems for so many people?
Because it seems that, even if you are running the programme as administrator in Windows 7, the operating system doesn't allow full access to programmes installed to the default install i.e. Program Files. My setup is C:\\Auran\TS12.

Hi,

When I first puchased TS12 I was unable to get it to work when loaded into Programme Files.

The Help Desk told me to load it into C:\\NV3\TS12 and it has worked perfectly.

Their explanation was "Under some versions of Windows, the 'Program Files' folders may have more restrictive account permissions/settings, and as such there may be interference with some programs. In this case, it appears that Trainz was being prevented from accessing/editing the Asset Database, and as such was not able to run."

Cheers, John

Thanks to those that explained it to me! I was unaware of the issue, probably because my version has been installed in 7, in programs files, for some time now without incidence.;)

The problems are mainly existent in Win7 Home Premium.
Pro, Business, Ultimate and possibly some OEM installs of HP, do not have the same restrictions on permissions that HP and Basic do.

Some things can be got round by registry hacks but some "bits" simply just don't exist in HP to "Unlock"

If I remember correctly, the Basic (Starter) edition and the Home Premium edition of both Windows Vista and 7 are known as 'consumer versions'.

Yes, they are, presumably Microsoft Speak for idiot proof? I suspect the Final version of Windows 8's equivalents will be even more restrictive.
