Railworks or Trainz? Whats your opinion on both?? Since they have their disadvantages

That is why I repeat myself until blue in the face, if Trainz wants to move further into the prototype simulation area, it is absolutely essential that sooner rather than later a proper autonomous and dynamic signalling/routing AI is built in along with easy timetable creation/operation. Free roam and navigating yourself around a "layout" might work for the model railway orientated but after 11 years of doing this, maybe it's time for Trainz to move on.
It appears TrainSims are moving away from AI trains and moving to multiplayer.

Trainz and the upcoming Run8 and OpenRails are featuring multi-player.

Railworks is probably on Steam to eventually move in that direction.

Their is one option that is better than ANY simulator (which are really just a bunch of lines/pixels) - but you must have the space!
Some of us do both ! (see my signature below)

.......And all our trees are real with absolutely no effect on frame count ;-p

Yeah my sister gifted me RW3 on Steam, I haven't played it yet but the game may not work on my computer. Just like every version of Trainz after 2006. and my 2006 seems to be on the edge of quitting on me. I hope IGN is right and it can be run on my old piece of crap called my PC.

Railworks run well with 2.8 Ghz CPU and indeed less power necessary than TS12 but once you have been dig in to TS12, you would just laugh about the comparison. I would give RW a try only if available from the Auran shop for $4. :D

You missed your chance. Steam had it on sale for a day last at that price.:hehe:

What is truly hilarious is a thread about the deficiencies of Railworks will last longer on here than any Railworks forum.

The first rule of Railworks is you don't discuss Railworks.

Harold

LOL. Try reading some of the threads at UK TrainSim or Trainsim.com. It makes a theology debate between fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims see positively calm and rational.

Yeah.. lol... no Steam thanks.. I've trust in Auran. Fortunatelly a bunch of smart wise forum members shares their opinion, just have to observe them all, their posts, and you will be fine. We all love trains, (since I've played Evening Star , (Southern Belle) on the good ol' C-64 ( aww 20 yrs ago) and the Trains where u had carry gold in the gold mine ) and spent hours , days to play, and now We are almost on the top, for a perfect Train sim, either RW or Trainz both works for the satisfaction for us.

I've bought a number of things from Steam and have never had problems (I did not buy Trainz from them.) The only issues I've had with buying Railworks through them is that whenever they update local files it overwrites my exising mods. Fortunately there's an app for that.

I'm not saying that people don't have problems with Steam; I'm just saying that so far I haven't.

Even if Railworks had realistic rain droplets on windows, with realistic animated wipers, superior lighting, rocking cab view, superior railcar textures and graphics, superior scenery, and animated turnouts ... I would stick with Trainz, as I have 2 projects that I am too deeply involved with ... too late to jump ship, and start a whole new learning curve. :hehe:

TRS2004 can look every bit as good as RW/RS with the right content. What RW/RS lacks is any intelligent AI. My main simulator for driving is MSTS. I use Trainz primarily for all the routes I ever wanted to build but never had time, money or space for. The AI in Trainz makes it possible to set up interesting one player sessions not possible in other simulators. If Open Rails adds a route building module mere mortals could use along with AI half as good as Trainz, I would jump in a heart beat.

I can appreciate the young thread starter being keen and full of enthusiasm. In addition that he will of course probably not be aware that this matter of Railworks and Trainz has been raised time after time here to the point of being a groan. It brings on pages of replies and just like each previous thread it just goes over all the hackneyed dashed things always raised. Might be subtley differently put word wise or such but sameness. As some have indicated a negative exercise. It is frankly rather pointless as all we get are the same things over and over when it comes down to brass tacks. Why others more acquainted to this feel the need to resurrect the matter like ground hog day over and over is a puzzle. Sure as fate it will come up again - what is it now - 6 times or more?? Utterly pointless ressurrecting, resurrecting, resurrecting...... A bit like a driver on the Glasgow Subway here going round in a big circle constantly.

Uhm you don't have to save on the paper and on the pen or pencil... Page 5 of 5 n still growing.. You have your point , we got it, but the last words for the forum moderators whom decide whether it closed down or still curious for some pro's or con's .. ;)

If you enjoy train simming, why lock yourself to just one? I enjoy Trainz, MSTS and Railsimulator. I bailed on the Railworks Steam thing. Might even blow your mind I use RRTycoon2.*
Each have up and downsides for what I want to accomplish. ORTS breathed life back into my first love, MSTS, Run8 looks promising for multiplayer without the DLS, which version do you have of Trainz mess.*
To the OP, the only thing that really puts me off of Railworks is Steam and it seems to be progressing towards a closed game pushing the freeware guys out. If you have deep pockets, you might enjoy it. If not, you'll be stuck between the payware guys jockeying for total control of it through Steam.*
Nothing wrong with trying new things. My next purchase will be 3dtrains Feather River for MSTS. Love to run that in what I feel the better physics train simulator. In between, I'll build my little Trainz routes for my enjoyment.

Good point, Sparky.

The reason why many people don't put the two sims on the same computer is because the PC will crash not due to any fault of its own. The programs will fight to their death, causing a major PC demise.

Not if you are as cunning as a fox with a degree is cunning. Put the Mac Trainz version on OS X and TS2012 on Bootcamp windows and they can't even get close enough to snarl at each other. ;)

As was said, rehash is pointless. Railworks has been recast as a game. No indication of a rework on the more technical areas. The third party content that is submitted in the future will be placed on Steam Workshop under a total license of RailSimulations. It is NOT a DLC!!

It is my belief that RSC wants to gain closer control of the game and focus it totally on driving a train up and down routes they will sell you along with "challenging" silly scenarios. This business plan will make money. The turn over of customers may be higher than the devoted railway nuts but the kiddies only want to drive trains. The technical devotees do not buy routes they make them themselves and to RSC that is lost revenue.

Some here reveal the mindset that RSC seeks. Pretty graphics and a wide variety of trains and routes. The underlying problem has N3V seen this model and will they follow it. Given the headaches of the DLC I suspect that tighter controls will be coming. Multiplayer is the stepping stone to gaming and we have begun to see that shift.

So maybe a year from now the next person that seeks a comparison may get info that they are very similar but Trainz engines are prettier.
