Railworks or Trainz? Whats your opinion on both?? Since they have their disadvantages

Hi Again Everybody.
I believe that the way this thread is developing we will need ships sims oil rig firefighting tender to be deployed to extinguish the flame war that is undoubtedly beginning to happen in this thread.

I am surprised that the thread has gone on this long but undoubtedly it will finish up being closed as all the arguments have been made so many times before and they then end up with members insulting the intelligence of others. Both simulators have their advantages and disadvantages and it is better to just accept that and use whichever one suits you on that particular evening for what you wish to do.

As I said wait until the Thanksgiving or Christmas sale when Railworks is $4 hold your nose and install Steam and try it.

You might like it or not and join the fun with insane rants about the virtues of who has the one true "religion".

hi everybody i just Railworks 3 deluxe and wanted to know if RRMODS, USLW, JOINTED RAIL, AURAN TRAINZ, Trainz Commuter Rail, Trainz Pro Routes's trains are compatible with Railworks

Let's not get this out of hand guys. It's all well and good for a discussion, let's just remain civil please.

Thanks guys. (:

On the contrary - the threads don't cause trouble. It's the self righteous, self opinionated, egostical posters suffering from rectal cranial inversion who cause the trouble.

There's no reason why both Trainz + RW cannot co-exist on the one machine, and the average user be happy with the best of both worlds. For some reason there's a minority around here who want to make it a turf war.

Finally, for the "not another Trainz/RW thread" crowd... if you don't like them, don't fracking open them.

I totally agree. I don't have railworks, but for $4, it's probably worth a try...

What is truly hilarious is a thread about the deficiencies of Railworks will last longer on here than any Railworks forum.

The first rule of Railworks is you don't discuss Railworks.

If you enjoy train simming, why lock yourself to just one? I enjoy Trainz, MSTS and Railsimulator. I bailed on the Railworks Steam thing. Might even blow your mind I use RRTycoon2.*
Each have up and downsides for what I want to accomplish. ORTS breathed life back into my first love, MSTS, Run8 looks promising for multiplayer without the DLS, which version do you have of Trainz mess.*
To the OP, the only thing that really puts me off of Railworks is Steam and it seems to be progressing towards a closed game pushing the freeware guys out. If you have deep pockets, you might enjoy it. If not, you'll be stuck between the payware guys jockeying for total control of it through Steam.*
Nothing wrong with trying new things. My next purchase will be 3dtrains Feather River for MSTS. Love to run that in what I feel the better physics train simulator. In between, I'll build my little Trainz routes for my enjoyment.

Just a warning for you, don't be surprised if a flamewar starts. I know it's not your intention, but whenever Railworks or MSTS are compared to Trainz, an arguement will usually start, and this thread might be closed.

In that case, why can't people who would like to reply NOT say which simulator is the best, but what are the advantages and disadvantages of each simulator, so that he/she can make up their own mind?

From his first post he already has it and says he enjoys it, go easy guys, he's new here.

Then why is he asking the question?
At original poster of this thread, so since you already have both, why was your real reason? I have a feeling this thread (whether he/she is new or not) was started for another reason.

It makes RW look positively cartoonish.
And what about quite a lot of the default items in Trainz?

Why do they bring railworks into this forum?
I'd suspect it may (not does) have something do with what could be considered heavy restrictions.

Exactly the same with people that have earlier versions of Trainz, where they are forced to "buy" a first class ticket, if their required item is only available on the company's so called download station, which are meant to be free downloads, as the instructions state on them.

Their is one option that is better than ANY simulator (which are really just a bunch of lines/pixels) - but you must have the space!

That's the entire point: It's all about the content. The reason why some think RW's graphics is superior to Trainz' is BECAUSE a lot of the default content (mostly very old stuff) in Trainz is pretty cartoonish. The newer stuff - especially a lot of the Russian and eastern European content - proves that Trainz is capable of at least as good if not better graphics than is currently offered by RW and it's community.

No, but there are routes that RW has that Trainz does not, London to Brighton

Which by coincidence I just purchased in the Steam sale. It is actually very good and, with no disrespect towards Trainz, it is very difficult to see how such a complex route could work in the programme. Just working out how to get out of Victoria or through Clapham Junction would be a nightmare in itself, without some sort of automatic route setting. That is why I repeat myself until blue in the face, if Trainz wants to move further into the prototype simulation area, it is absolutely essential that sooner rather than later a proper autonomous and dynamic signalling/routing AI is built in along with easy timetable creation/operation. Free roam and navigating yourself around a "layout" might work for the model railway orientated but after 11 years of doing this, maybe it's time for Trainz to move on.

......and the disadvantage of RW is that driving a train along a pre-set route, where the same things happen each time, is the only thing you can do.

At the risk of repeating myself automated route setting is possible in Trainz, though agreed it is not as easy as it should be. I have written some sessions myself that do this - you might even get to see them someday..........
