Which - and I know this from experience - is keeping a lot of us away from PC gaming. Thankfully, I also have a Wii!![]()
That's the free market system, everyone with a wallet gets to vote with their wallet. There was furious outrage at both UKtrainsim and the UStrainsim with nearly everyone posting "if they use STEAM I won't buy it!" First day of release they jumped like lemmings, six zillion posts about how do I activate my STEAM account?
The most intrusive is Ubisoft, I had Silent Hunter one thru four, won't be buying Silent Hunter V - that's my wallet vote. The agony and wailing over Ubisoft's decision to force the player into playing ONLY online with NO option to play offline was a dealbreaker for everyone if you read the posts;

The wallet votes are now in, apparently enough people don't mind it or are willing to put up with it that Ubisoft isn't concerned about the few sales they lost. Draconian anti piracy measures always seemed self defeating to me, you don't use a bomb to put out a fire in your living room. But whether it's true or not, the developers apparently believe they're gaining more sales with anti piracy (which is idiotic considering how quickly the pirates crack whatever they come up with) than they're losing by punishing the legit customer.
