Question about using KUID2

FootplatePhil

Trainz Tragic since 2002
I'm making some revisions to the Weddin Map to include Natvanders signals, so I edited the KUID in the config.txt to a KUID2 (KUID2:56603:100024:1) to indicate it's a new version. As soon as I do this all the sessions which point at kuid:56603:100024 show up in CMP as have a missing dependency (the map).

I think I must have misunderstood the purpose of the KUID2 idea. I expected that other content referring to 56603:100024 (ie, the sessions) would use the more recent version once the original was made obsolete. Even the dependencies CMP displays for the map shows the new kuid2 as having 'unknown location'. And in the CMP list, the KUID for the map is still the old format Version 0 KUID.

Can someone explain where I'm going wrong?

Phil,

I may not be much help but to my memory there has always been a problem when you change a map that has a number of sessions. This is not a Kuid2 problem.

I had to solve this with a layout I was working on that had a number of sessions by going into the Config file for each of the sessions. In the kuid-table (I think) you will find a reference to the original map and now this has to be changed to the new Kuid2 (KUID2:56603:100024:1). From memory (again :D ) it is at the beginning or end of the kuid-table.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Craig. I was afraid of that. That would mean I will also have to upload new versions of the sessions.
Phil.

That's my understanding Phil.

Others may have a better solution so I would not run away and do it now :D , see what other help you get.

The way to upgrade the old kuid system was to obsolete the older map in the config of the newer version and the newer version had a different number. You basicaly have a duplicate kuid number because the k2 version will not see the older kuid in order to replace it. Try the obsolete in the k2 map and see if that works if not it will need a new number.

The likelyhood of doing a kuid 2 of your now layout should have no effect because the sessions you have created still have the layout as kuid:56630:100024 whic from my experiance has no effect on the sessions at all as in 06 it only really is concerned with the base number not any update's.
For example the emu's that I am making use andi's script but in my kuid tabe I did not reference it as a kuid2 type asset and it still finds the latest version with no problems. Try opening for edit in cmp then copy the floder complete to say your desk top, deleting the asset from cmp, then place the asset from the desktop back into cmp, and see if that solves your problem. If you have any concerns with this I will see if I can sort your problems.

Thanks Alby6 for your suggestion. The behaviour you describe is what I expected , but it didn't seem to work that way. Maybe I needed to delete and reload them, as you suggest, but I ended up creating new versions of the sessions, and editing their reference to the maps KUID, much as Craig suggested. I wanted to get on with things.

The Kuid2 updates do not replace the older kuid version only an older kuid2 version so the base number is the same and will be seen as a duplicate. This happend when i altered some of my created content and it didnt show until the old kuid was deleted.
