Question about the NKP 2-8-4 DLC pack

So I just looked on the simulator central store at the NKP DLC pack, and I see the notice "This pack requires TRS 12 SP1 or higher." I'm running Trainz 2012 in native mode, albeit the British version of Trainz. So far I've had no problems and am reluctant to patch it seeing as its worked flawlessly for me. Will the NKP dlc pack work in Trainz native mode or not?

I'm not sure what you mean by "native" mode, but if you don't have SP1, it won't work. That's all. You have to decide between SP1 and getting the content, or not, that's about it. You will not be able to backdate/rollback Trainz versions if you expect that DLC to work. You will not be able to move the DLC to an older version of Trainz, and, perhaps, not even to a a second copy of TS12 SP1 for that matter.

I hope these guys will backdate a separate version for those of us who don't want to be repairing our computers every week. There's only one DLC I ever bought and that was the Blue Comet. I may not be creating content anymore, but I still run Trainz regularly. Unless this DRM gets in the way and then I'll shoot the damn CD. Or if the forums become too crazy, which is the only other thing that would stop me.

Ok, for those who don't understand "native" mode, that means any unpatched version of Trainz. Native mode actually does have a meaning and it's not the one you gave it. Native mode is the opposite of Compatibility mode which is in TS2010 and TRS2009. Compatibility mode allows some content with errors to run, while Native mode does not. Due to TS12 having Multiplayer, it has no Native or Compatibility modes; something faulty just does not work.

Kieran.

Thanks. I might take a chance and try the SP1 but I'm rather hesitant to even try it.

"Native mode" would mean different things depending on context. With that said, you're SOL, possibly including any DLC you already own, if you choose up apply SP1 or later hotfixes. The bottom line is, either patch and get the NKP, and any DLC you currently own for now, or don't patch. Any DLC you've purchased up til now (pre-SP1) should be usable forever and without an intenet connection to check if you legally acquired it, but that only applies if you have TS12 49922 or older. With SP1 and later, if you don't have an internet connection for a certain period of time (at least one month, according to N3V) or if N3V decides they don't want to reauthorize your purchases, you're SOL. This has been covered here before out the wazoo.

Well for you information, I purchased the Blue comet DLC way before this stuff about TS12 SP1 ever started circling around. Date of purchase was back in December of 2011. I even posted a thread about trying to get the Blue Comet to run in Trainz 2010 at the time.

So did I. Did you have a point?

I bought the Blue Comet, Murchison 2, the Duchess, T1, and all other DLC were purchased well prior to SP1. All work in TS2010 (I think 49933) and TS12 (49922). I own every piece of DLS N3V has put out so far. Chris (Windwalkr) has been pretty blunt:

If I want to use my purchases up til now, before the patch, without DRM restrictions, I can.

If I upgrade to the SP1 patch, I'm SOL.

The rules are different now. Try applying the SP1 (and later) patches and see if your content still works (it's been stated here by N3V's own lead programmer that a periodic authorization from N3V is required.) You also cannot modify DLC now.

This isn't exactly top-secret knowledge, even though N3V anything but upfront about it. :) Use the search button.

I would suggest you do one of two things. Either do a fresh install of TS12 patch this to HF3 and download your previously purchased DLC OR copy your entire TS12 directory to an external hard drive and copy this to a new place on your C:, D: E: drive or whatever, and patch this up to HF3 followed by downloading your DLCs. I always copy my entire directory to an external hard drive before patching just in case. I have a number of USB3 drives and these are perfect for backing up Trainz as they are so fast.
Currently I have 5 copies of TS12 on my hard drives they each have a specific purpose.
A clean install for testing, a copy for downloading into to check whether the route etc is worth keeping, a working copy installed on a SSD, a copy for Roys Trainz CPR route as this route Is so detailed the setting have to be turned down and finally a TS12 HF3 copy.
Excessive, yes but that is one of the best thing about Trainz, if that were to change I would simply stick with my old versions and not bother buying the later versions of Trainz.

The new NKP locomotive is impressive to look at, and that's where it end for me.

I don't understand why NV3 has released this locomotive given that TS12 SP1 is grand central station for bugs and performance for a lot of users.

All night patching, DRM, cant' save your purchased NV3 DLC locomotive to disc or USB Drive NO THANKS, I think I'll give it a miss.

On the other hand Jointed rail is developing steam locomotives so it might be best to wait and see what there future releases are going to be like.

In the meantime I'll save some money and think about buying some of those nice looking Pennsy and B&O locomotives from K&L Trainz

We have good 3rd party developers these days producing quality payware and giving us choice, for that I am grate full and it keeps me using Trainz.

haddock56 Don't rush to spend your money, mate or you might end up joining the growing list of complaining TS12 SP1 Users.

Take care

Cheers

and
not even to a a second copy of TS12 SP1 for that matter.

Actually you can, DLC is saved in the Packages folder, you can back that up and add it to a clean install, and run an EDR, I've done it for a clean install on a second PC and it works and saves downloading it all again.

I've also removed it to check my route wasn't using any DLC stuff and then put it back again.

Never assume anything with Trainz, just because an old method has changed doesn't necessarily mean there isn't another way of doing it, just need to find it.

Hmmm, ever thought of installing your old DLC before trying to upgrade? And we couldn't modify DLC before either, so what's the big surprise there? I haven't downloaded hardly any freeware save for Jointedrail stuff, which I find to be both reliable and pleasing in detail. I'm particularly waiting on ANL's release of the FEF-2/3s and the Challengers as well, not to mention the UP turbines. I also need to grab a few of the K&L Trainz engines, but not without sending Steve a message first. There's little chance I would upgrade to the SP1 patch and hotfixes, but if N3V can get all (and yes, I mean ALL the bugs, every single one of them) of the issues worked out so it is a stable and error free installation, then I may possibly upgrade but not until then.
