Queen visits Brisbane

Dear Oh dear. An Aussie that doesn't know the Queen is their Queen and not their Head of State? Ha, ha, brilliant.

On a wider note there are some rather purile comments as well and what age has to do with it is ageism. Especially considering that many here on Trainz are no chickens either. Her schedule would often leave a younger person jet-lagged but not her. As for traffic dispruption the same would happen no matter what Head of State etc visits a place. She does a great job I reckon and even Andrew Marr who runs a tv political programme on a Sunday on BBC has recently said she has converted him and he was not previously a supporter. My late mother used to have a picture on the wall when she lived here with me but I have replaced it with a more modern one. Just gave her a wink (!).

At Blackwatch, please don't include me as "you colonials".

This thread shouldn't be turning into a republic versus monachist debate.

And so you all should bow/kirtzy to your Queen. :p
You were saying? See: http://www.royal.gov.uk/ThecurrentRoyalFamily/GreetingamemberofTheRoyalFamily/Overview.asp

There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms.

I hate to point this out, but one of Elizabeth Windsor's many titles is, legally and actually, "Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of Australia and Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth".
And yet again, it proves that we should drop the religious part of that title.

From the Royals' official FAQ page: http://www.royal.gov.uk/FrequentlyAskedQuestions/20mostaskedquestions.aspx.

See Q14 for her different titles, and see Q15 for her official christened name: "Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of York"

But I thought her last name was, I mean the Royals changed their last name to Windsor.

Hi guys,

Please keep things civil and on-topic. Specifically, name-calling is not appropriate, regardless of whether you approve or disapprove of royalty or other celebs. Religious and political comments are definitely off-topic.

COC#14 etc.

kind regards,

chris

What the heck?!

Someone gave the queen a moon?! That is so wrong and nasty on so many levels. I may be American, but I have more love for the queen than the fool who did that. She may be in her golden years (because I refuse to use 'old' to describe a member of the royal family) and for someone to do that, that's just disgraceful, disgusting and despicable.

What a fitting gift for a royal on a free holiday in Australia in the state named after her probably paid for by us even if we didn't want to.

The "of York" stems from her being the daughter of the Duke of York (later King George VI) at the time of her christening, as she would thus have been christened as a princess of York (in a similar manner the children of the current Duke of York are also princesses of York).

In that case, Her Majesty counts as your queen there too - sorry feller, being a British Overseas Territory she is de jure the sovereign of the Pitcairn Islands too (the official style and title is much longer in that case also).

Peace,

You are very right there Robertd81.

We seem to live in a modern world that is full of sarcasm and not a very high state of wit. It is meant to be satire but often bile and invecture floats up quickly and not in tandem with querying which is the most suitable form ofgf government. The matter of mooning is typical of that crassness and I dare say some in Aussie see that as part of their down to earth culture but being a reasonable bloke basically I see it as ignorance and a black mark for the name.

There are also a great many countries who have had Heads of State a lot more contentious than Queen Elizabeth. Automatically some fount of wiser democracy doesn't automatically come with the word "Republic". Indeed many are heavens for malpractice, doubtful forays elsewhere, corruption et al. And again a number By all means do proper satire if that is your standard wont but do try and be a bit more grown up. who ditched a King got something far worse!

In Great Britain we must be the only country in the wrold without a written constitution and just as democratic as any represented on these forums. Others seem to spend much time arguing about such bits of paper and so on.

It is unfortunate the way this thread has gone but I in common with the goodly majority here are quite content with a Monarchy and if some here don't like it or anywhere else that is their opinion. Tough but live with it.

Rather presumptuous. You will, I expect, provide the figures to quantify the statement.

Geography 101. Great Britain is not a country.

I foresee this thread being locked shortly and rightly so before things turn factual. MODS!

For an Aussie to moon some one it is infact a great mark of respect, a strange but important custome.

Its a symbol from the days when we used to have to drop out dacks and bend over and be wipped by our English lords and masters. The dropping of the dacks and presenting the butt is a sign of submisson.

I would be more worried that no took the time to moon the Queen as it would be showing that we did not give a dam about old Liz.

This thread was started as a lighthearted comment on a fairly innocuous act in front of Her Majesty whilst in Brisbane, the home of Trainz.

It has obviously rattled the primitive tribal 'skeletons in the cupboard' judging by some posts. That certainly wasn't my intention and I do apologize.

Rob.

Good point Rob. The thought of some mulleted bogan (poor stereotype) mooning the royals was quite amusing but sadly, once the flood gates open, a loyalist/republican bun fight was the only inevitable outcome. I can but apologise for my becoming involved in same and spelling errors.

There have been previous threads about Betty and co and they always go this way. Perhaps the mere mention of her should be added to CoCs?

I doubt very much that dear ol Lizzy was in any way upset or insulted by a moony, she's been around a long time and seen pretty much all there is to see, not much could shock an experienced traveler like herself.

Not really, only requires a modicum of restraint from all parties.

I asked Ipsos and they polled a few people in the office which found 69% of respondents thought that would be impossible. The other 58% didn't know what modicum meant. ; )
