TS10EE Patch's

Rather than start a a brand new (redundant) thread "How do you install TS10 EE" ... I am posting right here.

I read the sticky and about SP & Hotfix ... but I am totally confused.

I have heard that you should install the 2 discs, and NOT RUN TS10 ... then install the SP's up to 44088 before running. Does that just mean not running a train or surveror ?

My question is: Without starting up the game (running) you can't see what trainzbuild you originally had without running up till the Start Screen, then exiting TS10. Is it OK to go to the Start Screen prior to SP installation ?

And if my trainzbuild is a low numeral, do I have to apply ALL lower matching Trainzbuild SP's in sucession ... or is it just the one SP, that leads me from my original trainzbuid to SP 44088. I have heard that there is one addionional SP that you can install and still retain compatability mode. Not being a fan of SpeedTwees, I am tempted to shy away for them (you can poke an eye out on those pointy branchs).:hehe:

And what is "Hot Fix"

I don't think I want multi-player, but I think that is TS12 ?

Also I plan on installing TS10EE on a Western Digital external hard drive ... will it lag, or give poor quality framerates ?

EDIT: Thank You ! slabay

I just upgraded to 2010 myself. I have got all of my content transferred it, but have yet to actually use it. If you go to the Service Pack page, you will see a list of build numbers- you may have to do more than one patch. "Starting" Trainz does not actually START Trainz. It starts a launcher that will either start Trainz, CMP, or set your options, so you should be OK. My digital download was build 43434 so I only had one patch to get to 44088. I thought I read somewhere to NOT go past 44088, but I don't remember why- maybe losing compatibility mode?

That ... Link dint' werk'

BTW ... I have met so many intellegent creators on these forums over the years ... I am pleased to meet ya' !

The creators list would be thousands long !

Cascaderailroad:

Zec's sticky thread in the TS2010 forum contains information on patching.

The patch can take a few hours, so if you have a second computer, then you could use it while the patch is in progress (I did). Note that the patch's progress bar will stay at midway for a while. This is normal; the patch is not frozen, but is still patching. Do not cancel the patch or you will have to reinstall Trainz.

This page:

http://www.auran.com/servicepacks/#TS2010

is where you get the patches.

Scroll down to the "Service Pack 3 - Hotfix" section. The names of the patches have two build numbers. Choose the patch whose first build number matches your TS2010 build number (found at the bottom-right of the launcher, accessed by double-clicking the "Launch TS2010" icon on your desktop).

This should take to to build 44088. If you want to upgrade futher to the latest build (49933), then scroll up to the "Service Pack 3" section and choose that patch. From what I have heard, this patch does not remove Compatibility mode. I personally have not patched to this build and am still at build 44088 because I have not seen any good reason for me to patch futher.

The "Service Pack 4" section contains a patch for the TS2010 multiplayer beta. This version of TS2010 does not have Compatibility mode. If you want to lose Compaibility mode and get the multiplayer version, then your TS2010 installation will need to be at build 44088, and you will need to get the 44088-to-46170 patch from the TrainzOnline Wiki to patch to the multiplayer beta before using the 46170-to-49938 patch in the aforementioned "Service Pack 4" section on the Trainz Service Packs page.

As for installing Trainz on an external hard drive, if the external hard drive is an eSATA or USB 3.0 external hard drive, then maybe, but if it is a USB 2.0 external hard drive, then beware. A while back, I was planning to install TRS2004 on my USB 2.0 external hard drive, but was advised on these forums that it would be slower.

Hope this helps, and enjoy TS2010. :) You might like it enough to switch over to it completely and enjoy the SpeedTrees, content, etc., that TS2010 supports over TRS2006. I have not used TRS2004 since upgrading to TS2010 other than to test a scenery asset I made, I believe.

Regards,

Zachary.

Unable to determine Trainz installation path. Requesting user to specify installation location.

Ready to install from local patch file.
Current version:42203.

Checking for available disk space for patching.
Unpacking patch file.
Patching from 42203 to 44088

The Green progress bar is halfway across screen ... PC sounds like it's doing something ... ramping up and down.

Should I let it alone ... is it patching ?

Cancel button is there ... Apply Update is grayed out

You will need to browse for the right version of trainz on your computer... also that you have the right patch...

Yes, leave it, i remember there was one patch in TS10 that took a while to do, Retro said its stays at about halfway for a good hour. Spent all that time patching up trainz10 and installing the contents across from 09' but never actually played it lol Can we have some screenshots?

Bogus Notice: No Installation Path

You would think that it is not patching if it displays:
*Unable to determine Trainz installation path. Requesting user to specify installation location.

Ready to install from local patch file.
Current version:42203.

Checking for available disk space for patching.
Unpacking patch file.
Patching from 42203 to 44088

From this notice in RED ... It would seem to be common sence that there is NO installation path, and the PC can not find the path ... and the only way for the user to respond and specify the installation location ... IS TO PRESS "CANCEL".

Why is there a bogus notice ? How many hundereds of people have thought the patching process is not taking place, and the path is non-existant ... and have pressed CANCEL ... only to have to uninstall/reinstall/repatch ... and get the same bogus notice:

*Unable to determine Trainz installation path. Requesting user to specify installation location.

I will take some screenshots ... and edit all these prior screenshotless posts ...as soon as I can.

Do you actually mean it when it displays this RED notice above ... that it IS Patching ?

The message box in the patcher window is basically a log, similar to a command prompt in that new text is written under old text. So the text about the patcher being unable to find your Trainz installation is at the top of the patcher log and is thus the oldest text and no longer applies because of the lines below it. The latest line, "Patching from 42203 to 44088", means it's patching.

Hope this helps.

Zachary.

I would do this. The database repair may start automatically upon you clicking the "Content" button in the launcher to start CM.

Prior to doing so, you could choose the "Configure Trainz" (or whatever similarly-named) option in the launcher, choose the Developer tab (?) and check the box to show the database process windows. This will cause DOS/command prompt-style windows to appear for TADDaemon and all instances of TrainzUtil, which will help show you that it's doing something while repairing the database.

Note that the database repair can take a while, so let it run and browse the Internet or whatever while it is running.

Zachary.

OK ... Start Page:

Patch Available:

"A new Trainz patch is available for download. Would you like to download it now ? YES/NO"

I am tempted to click NO ... as I installed Hotfix 42203 -44088

And the build in the corner shows my present: Build 44088

BTW: all these pages and pages of no screenshots will be recycled, and edited, with 10 screenshots inserted in each post, and wording edited out ... I sure have alot of screenshots to take and post !

I just hated to start a brand new thread in TS10 section: TS10 - Trainz fer' Dummies ... lol
