Problems with saving settings (TS 2010)

Hi, I have trainz 2010, v. 44088 and have this problem: when i build my own map, game doesn't save some settings (such as amount of people waiting on the platform etc.). I turns to default after every game restart. Could you please help? Thanx a lot.

Why doesn't Caudak have a trainz tree listed?
(the thing that shows 2010--2009--2006 etc.)

@OverlordNZ:You mean why does Caudak not have a trainz tree listed? It is because Caudak has not registered their serial number yet. (At the time of writing)

@Caudak: As p-dehnert said, the settings for stations and other industries are set in the Session layer, not the route layer. Layers are set in Surveyor.

If someone else can explain what layers are and how to select them, please speak up and tell people who do not yet know, including me.

Sorry, but it didnt help... Really dont know what to do :-(( stupid sessions :-(( when i move a building to a layer session it DISAPPEARS :-( How to work with sessions? :-(

Layers are like having two different editing modes. They allow the route, with the track, texturing, and buldings that are permenant to be in one place. Other items such as settings for industries, rolling stock (consists, wagons, etc.) are placed in the session because they're not permenant.

Now having the layers has an added advantage. With layers you can show the route in different time periods. Yes, track and buildings can be placed in a session layer, and the session can be saved with a different name. This allows for some track and buildings to be in a place that aren't there now, or weren't there when the line was originally built.

You can transfer objects between layers by selecting them and changing from route to session, or creating your own layer. This allows you lock down objects so that things can be moved around the objects, like adding in extra trees or street lights for example, without disturbing something that's already in place.

Now there is one thing that can prevent settings and edits from being saved. Ensure that the program was installed and is running as Administrator if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. This will ensure that the program is allowed to write to the folders and save your changes.

Hope this helps explain what the layers do.

Thanx a lot. I understand the meaning of sessions, but it really doesn't work. I allways (since TS 2009) run this program (or installation) as an administrator. But if i change a building into session it disappears after re-launching the program. It really does. If I don't change (it means it stays on route-layer) the building is still here, but without saved settings (industry, people etc.)

I think you will find that Portals, although listed as Industries, are not accessible within Sessions.

Make sure you are saving over the original session. If you check your sessions, you'll find there are many of them listed.

One way to get around this problem is to do a Save_As and choose the same route and session names. This will ensure that the items you've changed will appear on the route.

When i launch TRS2010 i click on routes, then click on the route that I'm working on, then click on session for that route, then click on edited session, add the information to the industries & portals & stations, such as how many passages or at the station, how much the industries produce & consume. After doing this i go the quick drive, and save, over write the session & over write the route. Test to see if all is right. Then exit driver,Don't save! exit surveyor, then exit game. All is fine when i return.

when you put in industries, passenger stations & portals while in edit route layer all you can do is add the name of them the rest has to be done in the session layer of that route.

Hope this helps not sure if it will but it how i do it and it's works for me.

Strange that some can edit portals in the session layer. I can assure all that I cannot even open a portal in session layer. Have to use route layer.

I think this highly depends on the kind of portal you're using. Afaik all buildin portals behave as you describe over here too.
As for saving settings for industries and such, the method Danny5 described some posts earlier is the best way ihmo to make sure you're using the same session everytime. In fact if you choose edit route trainz will create a new session everytime, effectively starting from scratch all over again. The only thing to remember when using the edit session trick is to change the active layer to a route layer before you start editing on your route.

Greetings from sunny Amsterdam,

Jan
