Postcards from Ireland...

What an incredible beauty!!!

Boy, the vid and the route are remarkable examples of what can be achieved with trainz, (if you're talented enough, that is;) ).

As someone said, it should be Auran's official promotional video.

Lovely shots Dermmy, keep it up! Out of interest do you plan to go as far as Castlegregory Jnc? :D

I'm doing the whole line: Tralee - Dingle, including the branch. Don't hold your breath though LOL.

I may release the branch plus a short length of the main either side of the junction as a 'teaser', but even that is gonna take a while. I am texturing out to 4000 meters from the line to try to get the fantastic views over Brandon Bay from Skylough, but it is playing havoc with frame rates.

I am at decision time - whether to prune it back to something more realistic, or proceed with it as is and accept that most running will be done with the draw distances set somewhere reasonable, but leave the long views for screenies or frame-by-frame running. At least I am doing the 'worst' bit first, the region served by the branch was comparatively well settled, most of the main is just high moors and mountains with the occasional cottage in the distance...

Andy :)

That's great Andy, and of course take your time, sure even I'm still working on an Irish route for three years now and it's still not fully comeplete lol!
I've never tried to alter the draw distance ect..,but I did download the programe someone posted earlier.I might give it a try,and you're right, you could achieve some great shots with it on the T&D route.:D
I have this book http://www.colourpoint.co.uk/titles/9781904242130-34.html by Colourpoint which features the T&D line in colour in it's last years and it really has some great pictures, aswell as other Irish ng routes.:)

Lovely work Andy, looks so real, keep it up!:D Google Earth maps parts of the Dingle peninsula now and you can trace the trackbed and bridges in the area! It also maps the Castlegregory area, but I read the station is long demolished and I can't seem to find any trace of it.:( It's interesting to view what's left though, you should take a look.:)

Thanks for the kind comments :)

@ harcourt: The Station Master's house at Castlegregory and adjacent station building still exist, as does the goods yard access road although other buildings now grace the yard site...

... the gravel top of the platform is also still visible. It is amazing how much of the old trackbed can still be seen from the air if you know where to look - the wide verge between the road and the hedgerow immediately this side of the station is a dead giveaway.

The identical Station Master's house at Dingle also remains as does the station building there (minus its overall roof). Oddly enough both the Dingle and Castlegregory buildings are now used by undertakers!

Ahh didn't know that,I read in a railway walk book that both terminal stations were demolished,I knew Dingle's was still there, but never knew Castelgregory still had its station. If I'm down there in the next few months I'll certainly get a few pictures, thanks for pointing out which house it is,that would be a nightmare if I didn't!:D

Just behind the camera lies the Aughacasala platform - or at least I think it does, but nobody knows. The published records conflict and the location is not marked on any maps that I have been able to find. Nobody knows whether the shared road/rail bridge just beyond the platform was protected by gates. And nobody knows if there were any signals on the branch other than those at the Junction and the Home and Up Starter at Castlegregory.

Apart from that, I think it's pretty right :)
