Postcards from Ireland...

Dermmy

Too many projects...
The Tralee and Dingle Light Railway was a three foot gauge line that ran for 30-odd miles through some spectacular scenery in County Kerry in western Ireland betwen the early 1890's and the mid-1950's. I have modelled most of the rolling stock for this fantastic line in 1:48 scale and have always wanted to have a go at it in Trainz....

Thanks to Roland Ziegler's utterly amazing Trans-Dem software I have now got the route started. Please don't ask 'when' - there are some fantastic views from the line and in the route-creation process I pruned 6 boards from the line to allow views out to 4 km, so the texturing is gonna take a while! It will be done when it gets done.

In the meantime, here is a screenies from the first couple of days texturing around the station at Castlegregory, terminus of the only branch on the line...

The rolling stock above is from Steve Flanders and Ricky Sykes. It isn't T&D, but they are on to it for me! Ricky and Steve will also create other specific content such as station buildings etc...

T&D

Great Dermmy. At last I've seen a train in Castlegregory. Keep up the good work and keep posting the screenshots to whet our appetites.
Looking forward to the mountains too.

It looks like a work of art.I wish I had used something like TransDEM for my prototypical UK route- unfortunately its too advanced now to go back..:(

TransDem is quite simply the most stunning, sophisticated, indispensable piece of software ever written to help route creation in Trainz!

Re: Trallee & Dingle

I couldn't get Transdem to work either and found the manual very difficult to understand as the translation from German didn't result in 'plain English'.

I used Microdem but the mountains were not as good as yours - mine were like hills and yet the summit heights were correct. As for cliffs, well they were like gentle hills.

Maybe I'll revisit Transdem.

Keep the screenshots coming.

Andy, What is Trainz Tuner. I searched for it but could only find one reference where a member of another forum was looking for the download address but the one given has expired.
Roy

TrainzTuner is an application that allows you to increase the draw distance far beyond what is given by default. But, it has an extreme performance loss if you set things too high.

Cheers,
John

I have two links for Alex Cavaco's TrainzTuer but both are dead, which is a real shame. It is a fantastic little utility :(

Excellent work Dermmy,I recognised the station immediately, the Dingle station had an overall roof you see but the Castlegregory branch didn't! It's only in the last few days I've seen pictures of Castlegregory station itself,it closed sometime in the mid 30s so pictures of it are rare but it's great to see you've recreated it very accurately.:D
Indeed, the line has some spectacular scenery, looking forward to more screens, keep it up! I just hope Steve and Ricky get their T&D stock out soon!:)

Thanks Harcourt - I have all the published pics of Castlegregory plus a fair collection of unpublished stuff and have got it pretty right I think:

It will look even better when Steve and Ricky get the buildings done!

Re: Trainz Tuner I have searched high and low for Alex's utility and drawn a blank, although Switchdoc has a similar product available from http://trainz.luvr.net/ - take the 'Quick Link' to Downloads and scroll....

Excellent, Andy!

Your screenshots are like postcards. When I saw them at first, I though they were photographs!

John

What an AWESOME route. You've captured the beauty of Ireland perfectly. I'm defiantly getting this line when its done.

cheers, Daniel

Congratulations!
