Please help me understand

 Sorry, all. I've been away from Trainz for a few years. Now I've bought TS12 and keep hearing about "Kickstarter - A New Era". I look everywhere in all the forums, and all I can find are statements that tell me I WANT Kickstarter, I want to pledge, and I want to get rewards.

So, is there a new Trainz simulator coming out? Is a new simulator in the works? Can we buy it in stores?

I saw what happened to Rail Simulator on Steam. No updates, no fixes, and new engines/scenarios cost 20-40 bucks or more. That's why I came back to Trainz. I love the new TS12, but now I also find out Auran has gone bankrupt and "N3V" has the rights.

I'm not really interested into "trading" or "pledging" or "rewards". I just like running train simulators.

So what IS going on?

I think for now I'm hanging onto my old box set of 2009 WBE.

Oh, is anything left of the old Auran groups?

Hello and welcome back to Trainz. :)

There is a new version of Trainz coming out. It is called T:ANE which stands for 'Trainz: A New Era'.

The Kickstarter thing is a campaign which N3V are using to raise funds for the development of T:ANE. You can pledge money towards the cause if you wish, however it's not necessary. There are different pledge levels with their own rewards. Remember, they are only a small company.

I can direct you to a page with more information about the Kickstarter program and the Trainz campaign if you'd like.

There's no need to 'trade', 'plege' or 'receive rewards' if you do not wish to do so. The last two are connected.

I hope that clears up some of your questions.

Kieran.

OK, so I think I get it now. I've been reading the Kickstart forums for awhile. So this is an N3V thing, and they're letting enthusiasts chip in on some of the decision making by way of voting, and voting by way of contributions to the program. Very interesting. Veeeeery interesting. Of course in the end it will have to come down to N3V and what they think is profitable. It's like a pseudo-democracy thingie ... sorta. Those with the most invested in the program get to call the shots, and the rest sit back and hope to be heard. Sounds like Washington DC.

In my case, I'm just a paycheck-to-paycheck working-class stiff with a family. I'll just wait for the thing to come out, then try to figure out if 1) I can afford it, and 2) if it'll run on my computer. That's just my lot in life. I play with "big boy" computers at work, not at home.

So what is N3V really thinking? If this goes too far into advanced graphics and multiple liquid-cooled co-processors, it'll leave folks like me far behind. I'll just go back to S**** and play TS-**** for my entertainment ... forever.
:'(

Has N3V considered humans moving off to tablets and smartphones? I bought a terabyte hard drive the other day. There was DUST on the box!

Satellite bandwidth is definately coming now, probably in about 2 years. So is New Era aimed that way? Does N3V see all of our futures ... in ... the BOXES?
:o

There has been Trainz for Android, ipad and ipod etc for some time. What you won't get on a gadget or a tablet for many years yet is the same quality or amount of content and features, they are not physically capable of handling it.
T2 is aimed at multi-platform that's, PC, Mac, Gadgets within their obvious limitations and even eventually Linux.
Personally I prefer to see what I'm doing on a proper computer screen, when you get over a certain age ones eyesight naturally deteriorates and is not good enough for mobile devices with tiny screens.

Me, too. Dealing with Steam caused me to not load the train sim for almost a year, so I bought the boxed Simulator 12, and now am back to Trainz.
Got past the Kickstart; the new NVidia graphics cards are finally advanced enough that all graphics programs need to be rewritten to take advantage of the new physics capabilities.
That leaves us waiting for the programs to catch up to what these quad cores w/ NVidia graphics already could deliver.
From what I remember, the developers deluded themselves into thinking they could go strictly pro with training software. Guess they want to sell to the public, after all.
Patched up from boxed 46957 to build 61388, and ready to go.
