Welcome to the forums.

I wouldn't agree with trainman7616 there, although it does sound like a database repair is needed. This can be done through Content Manager (click Content on the Launcher, then when Content Manager loads, click File followed by Extended Database Repair).

Also be aware that there is a known issue with TS2010 involving 'faulty' content that is not actually faulty. There is a sticky in the TS2010 forum regarding that one.

Can I just say, I have Trainz 2010 and although it is a bit slow, this is to be expected from my version due to it being on a laptop with Cities in Motion, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Train Simulator 2013 installed on it. As for is having so many errors, I hear Trainz 2012 is much, much worse. I've had Trainz 2010 about 3...maybe 4 weeks now, and I have had a few issues with the Content Manager, but nothing with the game itself.

I have mine patched to 49933, so maybe try completing the patch to that. As for the content updates, I don't understand it but I specifically remember yesterday at one point it said I have 2013 updates, so I don't think that has anything to do with performance.

Try clearing out your computer/laptop of all the junk you have. Fiddle with the settings in the Options section on the launcher. Go into surveyor and reduce the draw distance for both terrain and scenery. I have all my settings on about medium-low apart from the texture settings (which I have maxed).

Also, avoid the built-in routes. They're all riddled with SpeedTreez (not my favourite invention in the Trainz world). I too have completely given up trying to drive on certain routes from Trainz 2010, such as the ECML. Took me 15 minutes to load York then took me 40 minutes to get to Doncaster (takes about 22 minutes in real life) because the game just went so slow.

Basically, don't give up with Trainz 2010. Finish patching it to 49933 (if you can), and avoid the built-in routes. If you're looking for a good high speed route, there are several available. I don't know whether these contain SpeedTreez. Without meaning to plug...If you're after a high speed route designed for lower-end PC's and laptop's, there is one definitely in the works. I know, because myself and another Trainzer are jointly-building it ;) (See this thread for info)

Happy Trainzing :)

you're both wrong. It's usually the user and 2002-era content that causes the errors in trainz. I build my own routes, and use modern assets, and my trainz practically never crashes

Built-in routes? They're fine, it's YOUR system that's the problem there. Except for maybe the Norfolk and Western one, no one gets great frames on that one. I get about 25-30 on average

I've been running 2010 for over a year, I patched as far as build 49933 & have no problems.
It does take a little time & effort to get all the assets updated & error free, but is worth it.

I never said it wasn't my system, I said that perhaps his game is running slow because of the system and that built-in routes use SpeedTreez which slow the game down, due to them having to be re-drawn every single frame.

I know I have a cr*p system, don't remind me :hehe:

you could try using a game booster program, if you have a lot of programs working in the background, especially if you use a lot of network intensive programs. the speed change can be quite dramatic, there are sone good ones that are free like Game Booster and ASC Boost.

Yah, but here is the reason for Faulty Assets. After a patch, stuff will say it faulty, and half of it is not. You will need a powerful computer to run TS2010. Since I have TS12, it is chalked full of error's, and as thomas the tank engine would say, "It's Not Funny."

He is at build 44088, this is the last build that still has compatibility mode, if he should go up to the next level, then the cutbacks will start to bite, but it is worth it as the older content that have the biggest faults will no longer work unless someone fixes them, the down side is that you will loose some of the older routes.

Correction - build 49933 also has compatibility mode. It's only if you install the Multiplayer beta (builds 46170 or 49938) that you lose compatibility mode.

Leecofield,

Welcome to Trainz and to the Trainz forums.

TS2010 is not as bad as some of these posters are making it. The same with TS12. They are not perfect programs, but they're not as evil as these guys are making them out to be.

You are running a P4 3.2 which is generally considered and older CPU by today's standards and doesn't quite have the through put the newer processors have. You may want to try some things to help speed up your game. Go into the -in-game options (under the main menu) within Driver or Surveyor, and set your video sliders back a bit. This will allow the CPU catch up with the video card and speed things up for you. Experiment with the sliders, such as fog, draw distance, and others, until you find the optimal settings that suit you. These will help your video card as well as that is now considered an "older' card. Don't get me going on this. We'll spend a lot of money for components one day and a few months or a year later, they're considered "old"!

Outside of the game, there are some things that you can try to help speed things up. These will help not just this program but everything else you run on your computer:

- First of all there is no need to run the program in Windows 7 Compatibility mode. Why would you do that as that can really hurt performance? If anything, choose run as administrator from the compatibility tab. The Win 7 compatibility mode adds extra overhead to the operating system, making everything work harder.

-Now you did not mention how much space you have on your hard drive, but if your drive is full up, this can cause performance issues not just with the game here, but with other programs and the operating system as well. You can find this out by going into My Computer, and right clicking on your hard drive and then choosing properties. This will show a pie of how much space you have free and how much is full. A drive that's too full won't allow the operating system to get out of its own way. It's like trying to move stuff around in a room with no place to put stuff. You are constantly shuffling boxes around to walk around. The same with the full drive. The operating system also needs space for its self to operate at the same time as programs, and if there is little space on the drive, it starts thrashing the drive (the light will flutter and the drive with buzz and click (chatter) like crazy).

If you are full up on space, you can run the built-in drive clean-up utility to help and uninstall any unnecessary programs, move off pictures, music, and videos to DVDs, and clean-up temporary files using a utility such as CC Cleaner which is free. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner.

Once you've cleaned your computer, I highly recommend defragmenting your hard drive. This is done through Accessories and then System Tools. Choose Disk Defragmenter.

- Check your system for malware. If there is anything running in the background, this can make your game as well as other programs run like garbage. In addition to running your installed antivirus/antimalware program, also run an external one periodically such as Malwarebytes. The free version (not the trial version which is there also) is available from www.malwarebytes.org . Be patient as the program scans your system and follow any onscreen instructions. If you are confused or have questions, feel free to post here and we can help you.

- Disable or exit from any application that is not needed while running. These include instant messaging programs, communicator programs such as Skype, downloaders, weather monitors, and many others that find their way into your start up. Game Booster is very helpful for this and is available from IO Bit. www.iobit.com.

- Ensure your system is running cool. Clogged air vents and fans will make your computer run slowly and even slower when it is under stress while running graphics intensive programs such as Trainz. These programs put out a lot of heat, and when your computer heats up, it will slow down more. This is a normal thing to happen as the computer tries to keep from burning its self up. By cleaning your air vents as well as the fans and heat sinks inside your case, you can ensure that your computer is running in top shape. Use canned air for this and never a vacuum cleaner. If you have problems with this, ask some one to help you, or bring the computer to a repair shop.

With these things you should be able to run TS10 quite well on your PC.

thankyou for all your comments guys thought my pc might be bit slowish was thinking of getting a new 1 next week would this spec be ok running it Intel™ Core® i3 3220 processor
4GB DDR3 memory
1TB hard drive
Windows 8 thanks guys oh 1 other thing how do I or were do I download routes from again thankyou so much

If you can spare the extra money, go with at least an i5 and future-proof a little. Get Win7 64-bit, preferably the professional version. Lastly, be sure it has a decent video card, like an nVidia GT640 or better. If at all possible, try to buy one from a local, but reputable independent shop that builds "gaming rigs", rather than OEM junk like Dell or HP.

Most routes are available on the DLS, though JointedRail, TrainzOne, and other places may have some, both for free or that you must pay for.

I have been using TS2010 'as bought' for two years now and have enjoyed it immensely.

My computer spec (if it helps) is:

Craftsman Elite
Intel Core I5 650 3.2ghz Dual Core
4gb DDR3 1333mhz RAM
1tb SATA + card reader
Bluray ROM +22x DVD Rewriter
Nvidia Geforce GT220 Synergy 1gb
Integrated 5.1 support
Integrated Ethernet LAN
Windows XP Home

Craftsman Elite is the name used for computers built by a local department store to the customer's own requirements. I went in, armed with the requirements for 2010 (before buying this version) and made sure it would be fit for purpose. I had to insist on XP rather than W7 which was the system they normally installed because I had heard that W7 was not compatible with TACS/GMax which I use a lot. I have since heard that this was not correct. Never mind.
