Most Detailed Freeware Routes

I'm a little surprised that noone has mentioned them (perhaps it's the distinctly american bias to the answers - although eaglefan is american too, so...)

But any of the polish trainz team's (http://www.trainz.org/ptt/index.html) routes show just how much detail can be put into a route. Unfortunately, they require a bit of schleping around the web to get all the dependencies, but they are very much worth it, especially Holopole, which is my go-to route for European style electric operations.

Im a native Californian. Norn and raised out there for 22 years before I moved to Massachusetts of 18 years. I went to that website and I couldnt find any screenshots of any routes. Would like to see some screenshots before I spend time downloading routes.

Anyways, Maybe someone can help me out with ID's of the following shots and let me know what routes they are. For some reason, The website wont let me register as I keep getting a error message when I try to sign up.

I recommend any routes by Maxwerks. His attention to detail is amazing. His latest, the Modesto & Empire,<kuid:425968:1019> a contemporary setting

HobokenShoreRR,<kuid:425968:1420> - 1960 - 1980 era
25thStTerminal,<kuid:425968:1323> - 1950 era
JayStConnecting,<kuid:425968:1247> - 1920 era
AransasPassTerminalRwy,<kuid:425968:1010> - 1880 era

All are switching railroads that acurately reflect their prototypes.

Try looking on this page:

http://www.trainz.org/ptt/_download_mapy/_download_mapy.html

Navigating around the polish sites takes a little bit of guesswork, and a little bit of using google translate (it helps if your browser can auto-translate, chrome does, firefox has extensions for it, and IE could do it with the google toolbar - although I'm not sure I'd recommend installing toolbars of any kind)

UK route

If you want to try a section of a UK route then why not go-get my WCL1. It runs from the terminus at Paddington to Reading (the UK Reading of course, not the US one).
All the content is on the DS although for some reason 2010 CMP would not download 58422:38010, I went onto the DS and got that manually (or womanly in my case!), but it is on the DS. It is refused by '10' due to a dependancy for it being 'Not Available' any longer. It's a bridge.
Other than it that downloaded and ran in 2010 fine yesterday evening, even though I made it in 2004.
This route was the scene of two horrendous train crashes in recent years.

The second section uses the Greenery site's trees, I think by Conti.
There is a download of both section already joined ready for use.

Both have a great deal of detail and apart from the first couple of miles or so, the route is on a DEM. I am not a train runner so my forte is/was scenery.

It is 1:1 scale

Thanks guys for the suggestions on the UK route and so forth, But I am mostly a all American railroader. Im still hoping someone can ID these routes that I mention below:

Hey

Not sure if you've seen it or not, but you may like my route "UMR2011-MEGAMERGE-SUMMER". If your machine and video card is up to the task, this route may just have what you're looking for. It has close to 300 miles of mostly double mainline, with lots of industry and sidings as well. It's quite well detailed, and has been merged with a couple of other routes by other creators (ESO and GFISHER).

All items are from the dls, with the possible exception of a signal which can be found for free at JOINTEDRAIL.COM, and a speed retarder which can be found for free at TRAINZPROROUTES.

(Shameless self-promotion ends now!! :hehe: )

Yep, the first link to Mike Ski is for the layout by George Fisher, called The Loops, KUID:106916:1102 on the DLS, although, you can obtain all of George's layouts as they are extremely good, try both the DLS and USLW websites.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

I agree...George is the master. :)

Cheers,
Fred

P.S. Okay George...where's that ten bucks you promised me for saying that? :hehe: Just kidding...he really is.

Neilsmith - The UMR route was one of the 14 routes that I wrote down on my list to try in the coming days and months to come.

Double main line running - Now, You are talking as that is my kind of routes most of the time. When and if I decide to create a route for Trainz like I did for MSTS a few years. My route will be double main line throughout the route.

Jadebullet - Yes I know about that site as there are a few routes there that are on my list of routes.

Ex-railwayman - Thank you for that ID of atleast one of the routes. I appreciated it.
