Trains Constantly Jerking - High End Machine - TS2010 - Why?

Hi all, It's been some time since I posted here, visited, or even ran my Trainz,

I recently delved back into the world of Trainz, and I seem to have a problem somewhere, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Firstly, my specs are: Trainz 2010 EE (Patched to Build 44088)
System: Gigabyte X58 Board, Core i7 950 @ 3.07GHz, 12GB Triple Channel Kingston Hyper X 1600MHz DDR3, 8GB ATI Radeon HD + 2GB Radeon HD Graphics Cards, 1TB SATA III 6GBps with Windows 7 X64 Dedicated entirely to Trainz (I have 2 hard drives with separate windows installations), with 3 LG 24" HDMI Monitors (only running Trainz on 1, I use the other 2 for tutorials etc) & Every Driver & Video Software etc is up to date.

That being said, I have tried every setting possible both in Trainz & with my software & Hardware including screen resolutions, but to no avail, when viewing a train from external view, the scenery rushes past at any speed seamlessly, absolutely perfect. However, when viewing a train from a stationary position (ie; from a fixed tracking camera, or from free roam) The trains jerk continuously.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'm completely stumped!

Often times a high end machine can have a poor video card (or Integrated Graphics) and a low end 300Watt power supply, that can't handle a better video card replacement.

If you have a $1500 10Gb RAM desktop, with a 2TB HD ... but have integrated graphics ... and the pc will display poor framerates

Wow, that was fast! Although I should have mentioned it has a 1200W Gaming PSU, and the graphics cards are both PCIe X16 (the GA-X58 series doesn't have onboard graphics at all),

Thank you though, Hopefully that will help anyone else that has this problem.

Step one would be check for missing dependencies, the easy way is delete missing assets in Surveyor.

Step two check the performance sliders do you have them way over to the right ie max detail and viewing distance? If so bring them back down a bit.

After that it might be worth looking at other things.

Cheerio John

That can also be caused by faulty assets/faulty dependencies - check these as well. Also check that there are no open for edit assets.

Hi John & Shane,

Yeah I have tried all that, I have tried the sliders at both min & max with no difference. The route is a fictional one I am currently working on with no missing or faulty dependencies, it is very large and completely packed with assets like the ATLS & Trigger Signal Rule etc, rather busy in fact, but I get the same jerking from a basic straight track with no scenery as well. It's really strange because my graphics cards etc perform flawlessly on all my other games, and I do a bit of hard core 3D stuff too with no performance issues. Maybe I need to buy TS12

Thanks, Marc.

By any chance, are your graphics cards configured to work as one using SLI or similar? If so, Trainz does not like this.

Shane

Using OpenGL by any chance? If you are change to DirectX and make sure you have directX9c added to 10 / 11 as they are not fully compatible with 9c which Trainz is coded in.

SUCCESS! I installed DirectX 9c over my 11 & BINGO! Everything runs perfect at maximum settings! :D

Thanks Guys! Wonderful as always! ps. no need to run in crossfire with my cards, they have tons of grunt ;)

Marc.

Hi MadMarc81.

How did you install DirectX 9c over your 11?

I have downloaded 2 versions of the installer and it doesn't seem to install properly. It takes 3 milliseconds and then it says that the DirectX is up to date.
I have not been able to find other versions of DirectX 9c

I am having a bit of the same issues with TS12 lacking.

Thanx in advance.

That's strange. Microsoft do not normally permit mirror downloads. I will need to check it for myself - if it is indeed OK, I can then add it as a mirror on my sticky.

Shane

EDIT: It's also an older version.

I did an extensive scan before allowing the file out of quarantine (as with all downloads) plus I run Comodo & check the sites with it first, with no problems ;)

It appears to be OK, but it is not the latest version.

My sticky in the General Trainz forum contains links for the latest versions.
