Patching TS12 v. 49922 to v. 57720

It still begs the question: Isn't the SP1 tested thorough BEFORE its release? If not, why not? If SP1 was tested prior to release, why weren't these new issues found?

Another question, as I am a content creator, on the vanilla TS12 install, when installing/upgrading or improving a new created content into CM, it took CM often up to 3 saves to finally save this content, so one could see it in game. Zec_Murphy at the time said this was a known issue. The next patch (too lazy to start my other PC to check its number) reduced this to 2 saves sometimes in CM required to save the installed or updated content. Again, Zec_Murphy said this was a known issue. With this new SP1 patch, are there still these "more than 1 save required" issues to finally remove the "open for edit" icon and finally see this so saved content in game?

Cheers

I'm sure that any Service Pack is tested before release, Herbert, however, is it done with the vast majority of popular 3rd party Payware routes, scenery, locomotives, etc, etc, installed on their computers, as folks seem to be having more problems with that issue now they've installed it on their hard drives, than anything else today.

And as for having to click several times on an asset to get CM to accept any amendments, I don't bother any more, if the hammer/spanner box remains highlighted black after I've pressed commit, then, I just hang on for 10 seconds and click on View errors and warnings again and it corrects itself immediately.

I think I'll hang on before I actually install this service pack, I still haven't forgotten what happened after the SP1 for TRS2006.........:hehe:

I have clean install of T12 on another drive, what parts of the installation do I need to transfer to my present T12 location to make it run.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

With the clean install,

Import your content from your userdata folder into the new install using Content Manager.

With the update installed, I would click skip-all when asked to overwrite any already installed assets.

Right now I can't do much as my installation is doing an EDR. It's about 2/3 done and has found a lot of errors.

I cannot believe what I have found! Content Manager will not 'show dependencies' (greyed out) even on assets which I know have them.

Did a QDR but no difference. Surely this cannot have been missed by N3V, so there must be a fix for this.

Eventually I reached for my weapon of last resort, did a full EDR. I can now view dependencies but I now have 380 faulty assets which seem to be mainly missing thumbnail images which previously only gave a warning but now gives a fault which prevents the asset showing. Quite a big job ahead of me putting thumbnails into these assets.

In my opinion, yes. If you have 3rd party assets installed it may be a hastle. If you're simply DLS, I see no problem............yet!! Whatever issues there are, are 'IN HOUSE' and being dealt with. A robust OS, defragmented, and tested for file errors, helps a lot! If the install is clean, but faulty; a 'hotfix' will, ...........well, fix it!

I assure you that we of course thoroughly test our service packs in-house. But there are thousands of DLS assets that a user can have, as well as untold differences in hardware, computer specs, background software. We cannot possibly test every single configuration.

This is why we first release as a manual patch before making it automatic. Everyone who then wants to download the patch right away can. And it exposes the patch to hundreds of different environments, all setup differently. And if there's anything wrong, we begin work on addressing those issues, as you can see by the hot-fix that's already been mentioned.

You are saying do the install, then the sp1, and then import the content?

Thanks, John

I'm quite happy to be a guinea pig!!! (far better than being a mushroom). Still "away's" to go, but a great improvement. Keep up the great work NV3 & beta testers...

Cheers, Mac...

If the item is not that important to have asap would be just better to wait as all content creators have been asked to update there content with thumbnails by N3V.

Thumbnails

There are many of these from legacy assets. For assets uploaded TB 2.9 or higher this will not be an issue as a thumbnail is a requirement of the DLS upload process..

With TS12 SP1 checking is more rigorous. It is now necessary to have a Thumbnails container in config.txt; a correctly sized jpg image, and the filepath between the two correctly stated.

Solution - Using AssetX you can Repair individually. I shall shortly have a TARDIS script available that can deal with thousands per run.

I'm currently doing final checks on TARDIS 3.7 which is compliant to TS12 SP1 build 57720. This suite of repair programs will be available on Shane Turner's website along with PEVTools.

As with most complex software I have a few last minute bugs to fix. PEV will then put this lot into an installer. You will need to install some utilities to enable the fully integrated suite to work correctly.

TARDIS 3.7 in conjunction with Andi06's AssetX and PEVTools has a high level of fully automated repair, a fairly large semi-automated capability, and assistance in completing manual intervention on the remainder.

From a database of the complete DLS, all TS12 builtins, and approx 20,000 from external websites totalling 276,000+ assets, I have found only 436 assets that cannot be fixed due to missing meshes or major textures.

Hi

Since patching I am unable to access the S&C add on or the Murchison2 add on. In the options screen it says that the serial numbers for these are invalid so presumably that is why they don't show. They were both working fine before I patched it. It is a real problem as most of my sessions use S&C rolling stock in them. Is anyone else seeing this issue?

I've also noticed that sessions downloaded from the DLS can't be opened in Surveyor unless you clone them first. Presumably this is to keep them intact for multiplayer use but I often like to look at how a session has been put together to see if I can learn anything from how driver commands and rules have been used. It looks like I'll have to clone each session first before I can do this in future. It doesn't seem to apply to built in sessions though.

Brian

Good Morning Brian, and others :)

Due to the implementation of the new DLC system, existing 'installs' of the DLC packs in TS12 will not be functional in SP1. These packs must be downloaded and installed via the DLC system. When you first start Trainz, this will occur automatically.

If it does not occur automatically, then please click on the 'get content' option on the main menu, then click on the 'redownload all purchases' button at the bottom of the screen. You may wish to temporarily cancel some so you are only downloading one at a time, or you can simply let them all go whilst you play Trainz :)

Good Morning Enginewhistle
The time required for the update to install will vary between computers, however it shouldn't generally be more than an hour or so. If it's going over 3-4 hours, then you may need to check if there are other programs hogging resources.

Generally, we do not recommend using the computer whilst the update is running, as this can interfere with the installation of the update. Generally it's best to let it run overnight :)
