Only 9 Routes in New 2012 install

I was wondering if anyone could shed light on the fact I only have 9 routes in today's new install of 2012.

I have been using 2010 for 12 months and unchecking the yellow star in 2010 enabled a long list of routes. No problems there.

Doing she same in 2012 brings up a statement that only the favorite routes are show, and to "Click Here" to enable all routes.

Clicking on the link does nothing.

I have tried extended database repair but that does nothing.
Traniz 2012 is running in Vista 32 bit.

Can anyone offer a fix?

There is no fix. There are only 9 routes in TS12. All the routes are listed as favourite.

Then again, I could be wrong...

Those 9 routes are all that Auran/N3V advertised as being available with TS12. I don't remember them advertising those hidden "extras" in TS2010, now that I think about it, at least not any specifics.

The long and short of it is that Auran wanted to start with a clean slate and so deleted all these extra routes and much if not most of the content they used. IMO, it was a bad idea - I've recommended TS2010 over TS12 simply because of the sheer number of routes that come with TS2010 - but I suppose they had their reasons.

They shoud not have removed Robe River Iron that was my favourite route it's been in the game since Trainz 1.3:'( shame on you Auran!:n:

It might seem strange but I think it was a good idea dropping all of the old routes.
TS2009 carried over TRS2006 routes and then TS2010 carried with it TS2009 routes it had become far too cluttered so much so that Auran had to include the Gold star favorites so that users could find the particular routes that they were interested in.
TS12 seems to concentrate on the international nature of trains and I for one think it was a very good move.
I have had TS2010 for over 2 years and I still think it's brilliant and I would always recommend people to buy TS2010 in addition to TS12 NOT instead of this way you get the best of both worlds.

Yeah, that is why I bought both 2010 and 2012. I use 2010 mainly to "experiment" with routes, and introduce myself to the Trainz world. However, I also use 2012 for more serious business, and also because it will be the standard in a near future...

I wonder if TS12 is the new standard or just an interim version. I have a feeling that the progressive elimination of "non standard" content in TS2010 and TS12 perhaps points to the next version (TS14?) using a new or greatly improved graphics engine that depends on rigidly controlled contents rules to give it the required performance.

TS12 is already a pretty huge install, and adding another ~6GB of content to that would be unworkable for a number of reasons.

Many of the older routes and all of the older content should be available on our Download Station, so if you're missing your particular favourite in TS12, it's entirely likely you can just download it for free.

I prefer to think of TS2012 as a two-bedroom house on an extremely HYOOJ piece of land.

Okay, so what you start off with may not be great, but there's room for agressive expansion.

I thought of something, in the manual it talks about multiplayer, but

This is straight from the manual of TS 12

PART 6-Multiplayer

Joining an Existing Multiplayer Session
To join a multiplayer session, simply follow these steps:
Start Trainz and open the Routes menu.
Select a Multiplayer-capable Route (currently Port Ogden &
Northern, or Harbor Master) to view the available sessions.

I don't see Port Ogden & Northern, or Harbor Mastor available route. I only see 9.

If the forum could shed some light on this it would help me understand, but I might be overlooking something.

That's just copied from TS2010, as TS2010 has these routes. the Multiplayer beta patch included MultiPlayer sessions for both these routes in TS2010.

For as many buyers that complain there aren't enough routes in 12, there are 3 times that many that would complain about all those old routes being released in 12 again, had it been so.

12 was supposed to be a step up in quality, which wouldn't have been possible dragging all the content from those legacy routes along.;)

Quite right Chris, the DLS has more stuff than you could shake a stick at - it's mind boggling really. I'm glad TS12 is kept simple.. Quicker install....yet another reason my order is getting placed this month... I've got TS2010 on it's own 150GB partition and look to do the same with 12. No complaints here about less stock routes when there's so much content out there to explore from the minds (although sometimes twisted) of our community;) Just gives each their own chance to include what they like and leave out the rest!
