oneway roads?

Some time after TRS2004, I seem to recall that oneway roads were officially introduced. I've looked in the CCG for TRS2006 and TC but find no mention of this effect.

Do I just remember a discussion that was never implemented? I clearly remember a mild regret in staying with TRS2004 since I would have liked to use them but other issues with newer versions made me stay. Now that I have come to like TS2009, I thought I would revisit this effect but now I can't find any mention of it. :o

It was introduced with TC1. If I recall correctly Bloodnok uploaded a UK motorway carriageway to the DLS that used this feature. His config file may make useful reading...

If you connect a very short section of invisible road to a longer section of visible road, the short invisible length will only generate traffic towards the long visible road. I use this method on bridges which have both road and rail traffic where the road traffic is one lane (one way) on each side of the rails.

I haven't tried it on a 4 lane road as yet but I seem to remember a thread where someone else figured out how to do it.

Thanks everyone. I was looking for oneway roads. Wrong key word. Now that I've found isfreeway and numlanes, it's time to experiment. Too bad the DLS hasn't been taught to deal with TS2009 objects yet. :o

Finally got around to experimenting with one-way roads or freeways. I managed to create one and two lane roads without any real issues. One thing that is curious and just a bit disconcerting. When I place tracks from A to B, the track direction is also from A to B. Track side objects follow this convention.

When I place a one-way road from A to B, the trainz generated carz travel from B to A. Is there a way to control the traffic direction? Nothing too serious but will have to remember when placing them to make sure the traffic drives in the correct direction.

Twas ever thus - or at least as far back as I can remember - roads need to be laid 'backwards' if directionality is an issue...

A one-way road feature is a nice idea, but, unfortunately, the one that Trainz currently has is very limited and not really worth bothering with. One limitation is, yes, the ridiculous requirement to lay one-way roads backwards. The other one is the lack of support for connectivity between one-way roads and two-way roads, and even other one-way roads.

Well I guess that will really relegate them to supporting roles in the scenery rather than main characters which considering this is Trainz is how it should be. A road should appear , cross or run parallel to the track for a while and then disappear. For a while I was creating all sorts of road parts until I had a such a menagerie that the train and tracks got lost in the zoo. I'm now keeping the distant track side as simple as possible. Also does wonders for the frame rates.

I'll probably just finish these with a simple 3 lane version for a specific area in my route and leave it at that. No more fancy interchanges ramps and other details

Instead of making special transition pieces for on and off ramps or to change the number of lanes gradually, I just place 1, 2 or 3 lane beside or overlapping each other. Unless you look carefully at one spot for a while, you'll not notice the beginning or end of a lane and its traffic. If you do notice, you're not paying enough attention to where the train is going. :hehe:

I have made a 1 way invisible spline with carz to lay on roads without traffic. It is on the DLS as Road Carz 1 Lane Invisible.

Thanks for the thought maruffijd.

rjhowie, you're welcome. If it is of use to some people I'm grateful to be able to put a little something back into Trainz.

Doug.
