One board city tram layout.

A few early screenies from a project that is 70% complete.

Still to do all the overhead.....some more content to add as well as tram rails and a lot of detail......all things considered.....a big improvement on my previous offering.

The only planning was the setting up of 4 adjacent portals to give the impression of a working tram depot (2 producing and 2 consuming to fill the city with trams)

The four portals are buried under ground.

Beneath a city carpark and busy road.

Then rising steeply to ground level hidden by the worksheds and into the depot.

Portal 2 is for outgoing trams....they have a route within the city before returning to the depot at an elevated level...down the ramp to be consumed by portal 3.

Portal 4 is for outgoing trams leaving the depot at an elevated level....they have a seperate route within the city before returning at ground level to be consumed by portal 1.

Nice

Some very nice shots you have there :D

Keep up the great work :)

Ingenious use of portals there and it looks like a cracking yet compact route. I've tried creating a single board route myself and it is far harder than the unrestricted space of a multiboard route.

Tks for that....the restricted space is a challenge.....apart from the 2 portal routes there is the main route to contend with......all 3 have yet to be joined.....it's like trying to do 3 jigsaws on the one table.

It is rather conjested with quite a bit to go yet.....my average spec laptop will probably struggle to cope with the FPS.....a half decent desktop should be able to cope with it......i hope my machine allows me to complete it without grinding to a halt.

Some great looking buildings...Are those freeware and if so, Where can I find them as I could use them later in the route that I am doing. Thanks

Their is definitively a future for 1 baseboard routes, You can focus on the scenic aspects of a route allot easier than you would be able to with a bigger route.
I find myself making them all the time.

Kudos to you for an excellent layout and route. I never really thought about doing a 1 baseboard layout until I saw yours. I like the challenge of trying to fill out a multi-baseboard layout, but I can't imagine what it's like to try to fill in a single board. Seeing that there is indeed a future for this, I wonder if someone could sponsor a contest to see who could come up with some good routes and content (has this been done already?). Now that I've seen this and would like to start my own single baseboard route, I've got an idea for a multi-industry "yard". I'd like the challenge of trying to keep several trains running to specific industries all at the same time.

I am making a large British depot on a single board, the main problem i find with making single board layouts is the curves tend to be sharp (in a similar manner to a small model layout) This can be overcome though. It starts getting difficult when you start modeling large scale railway though. Like a depot.

Thanks for the feedback on this.........apart from planning the portals and the depot i never really knew where i was going with this......to make the most of one board i try and take my trams to every nook and cranny which means acute turns and trams passing through each other is unavoidable...this is the downside.

Portals 2 and 3 have now been connected....a bit hit and miss but they work great.....done a trial run setting them to appear at 1 minute intervals......by the time the first tram returns to the depot there are 12 circulating the city.....free roaming tells me this portal alone is enough to bring the city to life....the main route is also finished which leaves portals 1 and 4 and a major headache trying to find a way of connecting them.

Hope to finish this by xmas and get the screenies up....tks again.

With such a lot of work put into the route, Remember to save and backup on a regular basis.
It is no fun trying to redo work lost (been there done that) keep up the good work.

Needless to say I love Tram layouts.

Cheers.

Some nice shots there - coming along nicely...

There's a lot or creator's work represented, but the majority seem to be by Domsarto, James73 and myself. All of those should be on the DLS. Was there anything in particular that caught your eye?

Small update on my tiny route.....portals 4 and 1 now connected.......restricted space meant sharing part of the route designated for portals 2 and 3 and also sharing part of the main route.

A view from the carriage of a tram leaving portal 4....the tram above .... at ground level.....is from the same portal.....doing its city circuit.

The tram breaks the surface and appears at the rear of the depot.
