On what layer?

Which portal as you using? (post KUID if you can).

Thanks for prompt reply. kuid 30501:22006 portal basic - has the "green" Ind tick which, presumably creator used.

Strange that I could edit before. Maybe latest build (43434) has something to do with it. Must be many using S&C. Have they similar problem I wonder?

Just tested that portal on my own test route and I get the editing screen.

Are you trying to edit the built in route? If so that could be the cause, try cloning the route and then editing.

Just to eliminate posibilities, try creating a new blank route and placing a copy of the portal on it. Click on the (?) and then the portal and see it you get the editing screen.

You don't need to save the new route.

Tried that with new route - no edit. Was able to edit: portal and portal basic HS. Looks like I will have to change all the portals:eek:

Might be a faulty asset.

Try selecting portal basic in Content Manager, then right click and;

Select Edit > Open for Edit

Reselect the asset, right click and select Edit > Revert

Running out of ideas if this does not work.....

Hi again.

Trainz never ceases to amaze me.

Re did two portals by deleting then building again with success. When I got to the third one all was ok. I was able to edit all the remainder!!

Thanks again for interest.

I have a different problem with layers. I am working on a session for a route made with Trainz 3.3, which is also my own current Trainz. I lock the route layer and want to put a consist on some piece of track which is in that locked route layer. All I get is an error message "selected item is in a layer that is invisible or locked". When I unlock the route layer and put the same train on the same piece of track this works, but when I want to try the session, which I had started by creating a session, Trainz wants to save both route and session, whereas I want to save just the session.
Am I doing something wrong?

Dralex.
Try this. When working in session layer and building or making the route, click on the layer icon (right 5 down ) and set to route. This way, anything you add will be saved as the main route. You can change items to either session or route by clicking the "?" This will display a window and top right will let you change the layer of that item. If it is track, you would have to change each section between splines. Hope this helps.

Baz,
Saving the main route is exactly what I do not want to happen, because I could not share the session with anybody else. One should be able to put a train on tracks without changing the route, or change the production (or consumption) parameter of an industry - I can't even do that any more, and I tried since I posted the last time. I have the funny feeling I have to blame it on SP3. Dermmy mentioned a new patch since SP3 came out, and I am going to try it now.

As far as I have been able to ascertain the new 'hot'patch is aimed solely at a single save issue. I have not applied it to my installation since (a) I did not suffer that exact problem and (b) there are several posts regarding new issues which may be caused by the patch...

Not sure that I am reading that right, but I think you would get the results you are after if you unlock the route layer, then select the session layer before adding the rolling stock...

If true, it's possible this was causing other issues besides the save hang, because I got a serious framerate/graphics improvement out of it as well.
So much so, I scrapped the idea of a new machine. (for now)

Andy,

Thank you for your advice. To place a consist on the rails the route layer can be locked, but the session layer has to be selected. If it isn't, but the route layer is locked, you cannot place rolling stock. If you just unlock the route layer then Trainz wants to save the route. Which is what happened to me. If the sesison layer is selected and unlocked, but the route layer is locked, then you can place rolling stock, but you cannot change industry parameters. If you unlock the route layer with the session layer selected then you can set industry parameters, and Trainz will ask you whether you want to save a new route or a new session (that route has no session yet) which is what I wanted to do.

AHA - I see your problem. The industries must be on the route layer, and changing them necessitates a route save.

Given that one of the real frustrations of Trainz is that so many selectable parameters are saved to the session rather than the route it seems odd that industry parameters are saved to the route when the parameters only apply to the session.

A route builder would need to place all the industries on the session layer and distribute a sort of 'blank' session....

Sorry, thinking out loud!

Andy :)

Yes, but I still cannot access portals, which are classed as industries, whilst in Session. Indeed when I try to edit Route I still find portals reverted to default state.

Yea, 14-defect detectors & 9-portals later...

 I get sooo tired of this...

What in the world happened to simple instructions?

Or is this a work in progress(WIP)?

you set the portals up in session,,,,,,, layer,,

Thanks for assistance. This does not work for me I'm afraid.
Surveyor>routes>select route>select session>edit session>buildings-properties(?). When selecting any portal: nothing.

I, like many others, was quite happy to just enter or create a new session before:(
