OK, what the hell am I doing wrong here?

It's probably something obvious and stupid, but whenever I attempt to DL anything of Jointed Rail (all I'm attempting is rolling stock), I can't get it to be visible in the railyard. I take it that it's because I'm missing dependencies. Is there a file for download that has all the dependencies? What am I likely doing wrong? Should I be hitting OPEN or RUN instead of save at the outset?

In helping the actual matter at hand, make sure object is committed, and all dependinces have been downloaded. If there is a red !, post the errors here, and we can help you sort them out.

Mod note: if you believe someone has broken the Code of Conduct, please report the post. Calling them out in public generally creates more problems.

No worries... just don't do that again.

If I was moderating I would have sent you a PM...

I'll betcha your ears are red now!

Maybe a little. ;)

I'll post the errors this weekend when I have some time. I really need to figure this issue out. Too many great assets out there that I'm missing out on. If anyone would mind posting exactly what options I should select in the download process and how to go about fixing dependency issues or other things that can go wrong? Is there not a tutorial out there on this? Is it common for newbs like me to struggle with this? I just want some sweet new rolling stock!!! :-)

There's actually a nice thread on fixing assets here:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?56002-Listing-of-Errors-and-How-to-Fix-Them

It goes back to TS2010 days, but the issues are still the same even today with T:ANE.

Once you get the hang of the first few, you'll breeze through the process I less than 20 seconds for each asset. In fact it will take you more time to open and commit the assets in some cases than it will be to fix them!

Post your current errors here, and we'll get you started.

Most newbs don't bother fixing stuff so consider yourself a member of the elite newbs who will go on to enjoying Trainz at the next level, meaning exploring the program deeper than just playing with stock items and routes. You are right there's a whole lot of assets you're missing out on by not doing this, though many errors are getting fewer and fewer with the downloads. Eventually the DLS will be cleaned up since there is a program in place to do that, though it's been stalled until the bigger bugs are worked out of T:ANE. There's just so much resources we can put everywhere.

Your welcome. :)

Don't worry it looks a lot worse than it really is. A lot of the errors in the older content are really easy to find. Let's say you have this error for example. ? is an invalid tag. There's a lot of other stuff in the message which you don't need and can ignore like the warnings about the build-version.

So now we open the asset for edit in Explorer...

We open up the Config.txt file and we see a _____________ at the top.

This is the "?" because it refers to some hidden character that used to be at the top of every config.txt file and is no longer needed.

Simple delete the line.

Save the config.txt

Close the folder, and then commit (submit for T:ANE) the asset.

Done... Next... :)

As far as AssetX goes, I'm just whetting my appetite on that one. It's got a lot of good stuff in there like updating config.txt files and assets to current builds. I don't have enough experience with it to be helpful.

Thanks fore Good Info, i spent the yesterday working with Products Queue's and finding the right cars, plus understanding the limitations of said Queue's... Almost tore my hair out a few times, finally got Lumber n Wire Coils to load, maybe later today I'll play with setting up Unloads of Wood Chips for The same Small Sawmill factory...... SLOW but sure I'll get the hang of it.... LoL 😈
