Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 won't change local data folder regardless of what I do

Hello, I've been a longtime Trainz fan and I have recently gotten around to start playing Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 on Steam on my D: drive. I've noticed that my C: drive took up a lot of space all of a sudden and came to realize that TRS2019 was taking up most of it from it's local data folder. So I went ahead and switch the data folder to a different one that is also in my D: Drive, under D:\Program Files\N3V\trs19 LOCAL DATA FOLDER. However, it kept switching back to the local data folder and it's leaving me stumped.

I have went through many how-to's and wikis, such as this wiki, the support site, and even the TRS22 on how to move local data. I also found this Indonesian video on Youtube, and even checked this forum post. But no matter how close I follow the steps, it always reverts back to the local drive.

I am completely lost and I simply don't know what is causing this issue. Does anyone have a clue of what I am doing wrong that keeps reverting back to default?

Delete the newly created folder on the D drive. Go to the data folder on the C drive and copy the folder. Now go to your D drive and paste it. In settings, direct the path to the build folder in the moved data folder. Do a DBR to rebuild the data file. If all works, go back to the C drive and delete the data folder.

Thank you so much, it works!

I'm currently downloading a layout and it seems to be going to my C drive rather than my Z drive. From the comments above I see that there should be a Build folder somewhere in the Data folder, but I'm not seeing that on either my C drive or my Z drive. How do I go about finding that and is it possible to move an entire layout from one drive to the other once it's downloaded or should I just stop the download right now? Thanks!

The "Data folder" by default is placed on your C: drive here:

C:\Users\YOUR LOGIN\AppData\Local\N3V Games.

The folder will begin with build and will have a bunch of letters and numbers after it in the name.

Sometimes you can't see the App Data folder due to Windows hiding the folder to keep it safe from deleting system files in there by mistake.

To unhide the AppData folder:

Step 1. Open File Explorer

Step 2. Click "View" > "Show" > "Hidden Items"

Step 3. Navigate to C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME to see if you can find the AppData folder

You can then copy the build-folder mentioned above to your Z: Drive. We recommend renaming the build-folder to something else such as TRS19-Data.

Once you've copied over your folder, you can then configure TRS19 to use the new location.

At the Launcher:

Click on Trainz settings.
Click on the Install tab.

You'll see a path in the white space. Ignore that since you copied the folder to a new location.

Click on the dots on the right.

A File Explorer window will open up.

In that window navigate to your Z: drive

Click on your Data-folder on your Z: drive.
Click on Select Folder.

When you click on select folder, the path to your Z: drive location will appear in the space of the File Explorer-like window.

A box will then appear with a message about building Translation Tables and then say you need to restart Trainz for the change to take effect.

Close the window and wait a minute then restart Trainz again.

Thanks very much! Two questions: does the file moved to the Z drive have to be put into any specific place, and can the original file on the C drive then be deleted (I'm assuming it can)? And, a third question: I stopped the download about halfway through. Will the download pick up where the other download left off?

If you copy the entire build folder, you can place it anywhere, but not in the Trainz folder itself. In settings/install, change the path to the new build folder at its new location. You can delete the build folder on the C drive if the new folder works.

Allied to all the above after a windows update overnight I have lost all of my non built-in content. Now I have been using Trainz since fairly early days and this has not happened before. I have tried a database repair and also checked that the ;local data folder is pointing at the right location so what could have happened please help as I have done a lot of work building up my layouts etc HELP !!

Check CM to see if any content was opened for edit and not recommitted.
All your content has to be still there, updates don't remove content from folders.

I did a check on the files etc and almost everything has gone and I was only using it a few days ago. And now a DB repair takes seconds and only a minimum of built in objects Luckily I have another build but that has not been updated since February so I have lost everything from that date on. I can assure you I have not deleted anything at all they have just vanished off my main drive.

You mention you have done a database repair, have you run an extended database repair? Open Developer Menu/Hold down the Ctrl key/Select Rebuild Database. An extended database rebuild does take time so patience is needed.
