"OF STEAM AND SAIL!"

Beter state that Vulcan gave me (us) use of his Wooden dock spline Gmax file so we could create this Idea
:o:o Yes, I can't believe I forgot to mention that. The dock model and textures are based off of Vulcan's model, which he kindly provided to us.:o:o
50 lashes for me!!!
I sent you a update of my mistakes on the docks today..........
Thanks! I reworked the model you sent me earlier after getting Vulcan's spline from the DLS - I'll send you and Whec a copy tonight!

Pencil42, where did all that dock "cargo" come from?
The large crates are built into TRS; the smaller loads are ones I created for my old boxcars. Which leads to: What other loads would we like to carry?

I think Pencil42 is onto something really big here,, not just trainz or shipz/ but both!
This was actually Dreadman's idea - I've actually done very little ;)

Heh - you could even set up portals to generate / eat ships - gotta keep those docks busy! :D

Well the Brain Drain Continues

Here's where I'm up to now Reworking the whole scene LOL dont you just like content creation LOL!
Curtis your Steamer Trunks are Beautiful!
I'll use em thankyou........;)
Step 3 I emailed peter Dehnert who's great scripts I use about the error and asked Peter to redesign his multi track script from 2 track to 3 one for horses n wagons useing the Late Great Elvinors gmax files I plan to do interactive wagons and a good ol OZ Cob n Co Stage to drop offpassangers n freight at the Dock......and I belive Curtis will give you Yank Old West Lovers some goodies?.......................:D
I have got passangers and Baggage (Curtis's Trunks) visable on deck interacting with the dock/train Still a long way to go with this IDEA
But the IDEA festers like a pimple on your bum!

This has opened up a whole new side to Trainz, congratulations to all involved and many thanks for your efforts.

Hi everyone,
The idea of a steam & sail era, based on Trainz is a great idea.

However, consider the following:-

What if a route was developed, covering the historic development of, say, transport?.

We could start off in the stone-age, (think of Whecsailor's blacksmith weilding that hammer),
move on to that (once again Whecsailor) Viking ship with oars,
Arabian horse riders, Afghan cammeliers, Elephant safaris in DHR Terai Forest region; hunting tiger. Hot air balloons,
Sailing era, with 1st steam locos & horse-drawn trams etc,
The Penny Farthing bicycle & Daimler motorcycle etc.
The 1st automobiles.
moving into the 20th then 21st centuries, with all the development of
flight, & WWi & WWII, with all the special transportation needs there.

And on & on to Mars, & levitation transport.

Makes one think of the possibilities eh?............

Ive been using passengers for boats for sometime but there are no passenger enabled boats that show onboard passengers. I did some short track set at -7m below water level with passengers on dock/quay side which ive used in my devon lines route.
Pencil42 may i suggest that you also place a second track at -7m for those older creations that we still use unless there is a way of making them into the new standard. Im using -7m, -3m and +3m track at my dockside to take all versions of water craft. The only problem ive got is the width of ships vary so getting them to lie along side is difficult, gaps between ship and dock or ship in the wall.
Looking foreward to the completion of your project.

Stagecoach if you look above in the fleets in pic you will see 2 female passangers on the deck of the steam clippership and bagage as for the different bogey heights MMnnn might have to do the same dock at various track heights thats about the only thing I can think of?....Same for widths?

Ive used vulcans three invisible coloured tracks and placed all three heights in the same quayside passenger track. this allows for any of the three heights to be used or all three. they all use the same load/unload platform number so which ever level you use they all load from the same product. the only problem when using all three is you could end up with two ships trying to share the the same dock.

Captains Log Stardate 30042007.8.44

A few more weeks passed quickly , the weather had remained fine so far so the Captain assured us of a quick passage ..............My thoughts driffted back through Time .....Thinking of the First Trainz Explorers Brave enough to cross the "Blank Grid Trainz Ocean" in search of new Layouts! These dayz it was so much easier I thought "Just tell your captain which Dock/Port you wanted him to drive to" and you would get there to unload your goods of Trade and Passangers.......
But in the Past the Captains not knowing If the World was realy FLAT!..and what was at the end of the Invisable Guiding Track!!!!!!
Smaller ships Tougher conditions Sickness and earlier versions of Trainz these were just a few of the Hardships faced by the Great Early Seafaring Ledgends..........................................of TRAINZ! ;)

Just to keep you amused while the Dock is sorted out.
Based on the Mayflower sorta ;)
almost ready I can give you a Driveable one for about 13k polys
or a scenery one for around 8.5k

Back to the Task at hand!!!

Well I have had a bit of luck going over my mistakes and drinking way too much Coffee and Too many Smokes ...............and Trainz is supposed to be Relaxing.......(Only when I'm Drinking Beer!!).....
The Dock is working showing up passanger and baggage But if I add the att points for the baggage in the config I get a script error still??
Trying to get it to show up?? But the good news is the passangers are "ELVENOR's" western people sorts fit right in the time frame and also appear along with Pencil42's Western Baggage on the deck of the nearly finished Steamclipper (They will be Released Togeather) when the system is at 100%

Dont know what kuid I had selected at the time?....................
No More Warships from me unless its a Ship of the Line from the 1800's

Looking great, Dreddman!!

Stagecoach - sure, it would be no problem to add track at various levels. I'm a little worried that it might be difficult to connect the invisible track to the correct level without it snapping to one of the other levels (especially if there are multiple tracks per side to accommodate different ship widths). Would different versions of the dock be better?

I did'nt find it to difficult, if you lay the track form the quay track and splay it (left, right or middle) you will be able to see which connection it is on then delete the ones you dont want. The only problem i came across was stoping ships at the right place because they have no brakes and tend to drift on. so all my quay tracks are used as a terminus with ships backing out to turn around for the onward journey.
How are you listing the baggage in the config file? mixed in with the passengers or a separate queue.

Behind the scenes the project surges ahead !!! The end product , concept unfolds ...........................................................................!
Wagon/Stage or and (Rail) to ship to wagon (or and Rail) to your final destination!......."I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT QUITE CLEAR!!! I AM GOING TO "HACK!" for better words...the late Great ELVENORS GMAX FILES!...and create wagons and stagecoaches to interact with the Docks!...Necessary for the TimePeriod.." They will carry his western passangers and Pencil's great un-named baggage/Freight... First test ship the steam clipper is about 25k in the polys and is working fine after a grueling tour of the test layout loading and unloading at ...London....Port Royal..and Tortuga!.......................................LOL
Curtis something you might be interested in ? in your mail soon?
Stagecoach.......the passangers and baggage are seperate ques and attachment points and requireing a script ;)
as for different heights ............?
as for different widths..............? at this stage of thinking?????????????
We are trying for a uniform system????????????????

This whole Idea has got me creating a Layout! ........Yes playing Trainz I am being carefull what I use so when on the DLS it should'nt be too much of a content hassle.
Basicly the layout is around 1850 Steam Sail and Horse drawn Transport
I got the layout Idea from here .......
And it does fit in with the theme (The sawmill had a overhead railway)
interesting reading there and nicely modeled .....to get rid of the pirate Conan the barbarian the Royal Navy was called out to rid the seas of him.

The Power of your Imagionation/Gmax/Trainz!

From early on, the River Medway was a convenient location for maintaining warships. By beaching them on the mudflats at high tides, they could be serviced below the waterline. The river was also used for putting ships into "ordinary", or long term storage during peacetime. With the development of the state and the navy, more advanced shore facilities were needed, and the Medway area was a logical place for them. So around 1570 the Chatham Dockyard was founded, and it soon became Britain's largest and most important dockyard. Featuring mast ponds and a wharf, it was conveniently placed to service the fleet that repulsed the Armada, but it rose to its greatest prominence during the Dutch Wars of the mid 1600s, by which time it featured dry docks. A major disaster was narrowly averted in 1667, near the end of the Second Dutch War, when a Dutch raid nearly reached the dockyard, where much of the English fleet had been prematurely put into ordinary in order to save money. $$$$$
Chatham declined in importance and became largely limited to ship building and long term ship maintenance because the eight mile journey up the twisting Medway was difficult in the age of sail. Begun in the 1660s, a newer yard at Sheerness at the mouth of the Medway largely took over the duties of simple maintenance and supply. The problems at Chatham only worsened as the river continued to silt up. Further, Britain increasingly saw France as its greatest threat, so the Portsmouth dockyard on the south coast grew in importance, and a whole new dockyard was constructed in Plymouth in the 1690s.

Now thats a interesting Layout for Trainz + a railway and Wagon roads.
John Rennie, in his study of the dockyard in the early 1800s determined that because of the increased size of ships of the line, the dry docks would need upgrading. They would need to be longer, deeper, and wider. This meant that instead of the usual timber construction, stone would be required. Further, because of the greater depth, they could no longer be filled and drained by the tides; a pump house with a steam engine was needed. The additional length could only come by reclaiming land from the river. A little further downstream, land was also reclaimed and used for the slipways. On the far right of the picture is No. 1 dry dock which is covered, then Numbers 2, 3, and 4 in the center followed by No. 3 Slipway, where a ship is being launched.
No. 1 Smithery is indicated in the photo, with the later No. 2 Smithery in front of it. The Clocktower building and Admiral's Offices are toward the right, with the Sail Loft and Officers' Terrace on the hill behind them.
