As I understand it with any web hosting other than what ISP's offer for free there must be some kind of control panel provided. Does that provide any info on what is available and what is possible?
Otherwise, the web hosting company should have some documentation listing what software they provide, or barring that maybe there's a users' forum or help desk. And - subject to their rules - you might be able to download, upload and install any other server software yourself manually.
FWIW I installed E107 on my WestHost web space manually, having never done anything like that before. It wasn't too tricky.
