Issue With Trainz Plus

Yea I’ve gotten in touch with the helpdesk a couple days ago. Haven’t heard anything yet though. Yea it’s had me stumped the last couple of days. How would I find out if there was any file corruption not caused by the download? The one time I downloaded the offline version, it did say there was an issue with the file and installation was stopped. But when I redownloaded it, everything seemed to install fine but still having this problem.

You might try going back to a Windows System Restore Point from prior to your 1st install. Then reinstall Trainz by using an install file other than the "broke" one. Notate any error messages and post here. If Trainz actually works then create a Windows System Restore Point in case it breaks again. Then you'll be able to back to it in the future.

There's no way to physically see that yourself. They do provide the MD5 CRC code: MD5: c18ad8ad161b4f45d9b609ce2b2bdccb, like this one here for the full-version. You need to somehow run a CRC check on the file. That check should match the code and if it doesn't then there's a problem. I don't remember how to do that though.

This is indicative of the corrupted download. The installer got to the messed-up parts and quit.

Before you try this again, run a disk cleanup to clear out your Windows temporary files. There could be some leftover bits in there from the previous attempts and any future attempt will get messed up when you try again. This may not solve the problem now but will help when you try again after you hear back from N3V. They'll contact you soon. Their hours are offset from ours by 13 or 14 hours.

The Disk Cleanup utility is found under Windows Tools on your start menu.

Suggest Regedit - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-10-deab38e6-91d6-e0aa-4b7c-8878d9e07b11 to clean anything in Windows registry that it deems corrupt etc. Regedit has been in Windows since forever so it will work in Win11 as well.

Yes, I've done that but not everyone has the skills to edit their registry. As a now retired IT guy and tech, I have had to fix many user-inflicted errors. While at a long-gone former Polaroid spin-off, one of the managers thought he could "fix" his computer. He got it so messed up, it had to be freshly installed. He mucked with the registry to a point it wouldn't start and even using a rescue disk, it couldn't be restored because he disabled system restore.

John there is no mucking around or playing around w\registry. Simply type regedit in run menu. Click Yes for it to make changes and Windows does the rest. All automated and Windows controlled. Once it is done..Reboot I stand corrected on this statement. It can be done but if you don't know what your doing you could wreck you system!

Sure, that's the easy part. What does the user do once they've opened the registry? Click on something and change a value and break something. For us tech people, this is easy, but for tech support it becomes pure hell when the user has trashed their system. I was involved in support from 1994 until 2012 in one level or another and every time someone opened the registry, there was a problem. It's the equivalent of deleting sys files and command.com on a DOS disk for the user.

John I totally agree as I gave wrong info about regedit being automatic and thus sounding easy. I was wrong in that statement and don't know what I was thinking. Maybe more along the lines of sfc /scannow or dism cmd. Thank you for straightening me out (y)

Yup... I felt my heart sink. Seriously!

Yes, those tools are excellent and in particular SFC does an excellent job of fixing a lot of things.

Hey guys,

So I was doing some experiementing with this, and it only seems to reset all my settings when I edit the file path. Not sure why.

That's great to hear. The error message made that as clear as mud and alluded to a totally different issue. I love it when that happens.
