Hello to all, I am thinking of purchasing a new computer and in a quandary as to which make of "computer processor" to use!! Which one works best for TRAINZ(I have 2006 and will purchase 2009 later) , an AMD or Intel processor.
Would like feedback on this. Thank you and have a good day.

Richard.

Does TRS 2006 run smoothly on your actual computer? In the affirmative, TS 2009 will run twice better.

I have a Dell XPS M1730 laptop equiped with an Intel Dual Core 2 CPU at 2.4 ghz, two SLI Geforce 8700 video cards and my frame rate doubled on TS 2009.

Intel processor hands down, will run every thing faster than AMD. AMD has been behind for the last year and had a major bug that killed cpu speed.

I have an AMD 3200+ dual core processor together with a NVidia Gforce 7600gt graphics card and I've never had any of the problems I've seen talked about here, including any FPS issues.

But, that's the thing with computers, what works great for one person is not automatically so great for someone else.

I've been messing about with computers for since 1973 and that is one of lifes mysteries and it is why any "which is best"? question is actually unanswerable.

followup for processor

Andrev, My TRS2006 runs fairly smooth ,there is some jerkiness but all in all it works fine. I have a NVIDIA AGP FX5200 with 128 MB DDR installed.
Thanks again for your input.

Intel cpus out perform AMD at the moment and will for the foreseeable future. The latest i7 and the old Dual core 45 nm perform about the same for games due to the bigger cache on the old dual core. Note Trainz probably only make use of two processors so quads are over kill.

i7 Vista 64 with 6 gigs of DDR3 memory is probably the fastest this week.

In the past Iv had ADM, but they tend to get very hot with all the prosesing that needed for TRS06 and end up crashing I now use Intel Duo 2 with a gigabyte motherboard.
Best thing Iv ever done.
Even though Iv always suported the under dog in the past, I have to say Intel is best way to go:)

processors

Amd VS Intel. On average an AMD processor will run quieter and cooler and less expensive. However there is a noticeable hit on speed. Intel on the other hand I feel is much more durable and stable. When concerned with speed there are 2 big issues to be concerned about. With trainz 2006 and I believe it to be the same with TS2009 A person can get away with running at a lower speed if you there are not two many processes runing in the back ground. If you are one that likes to download a lot of applications and you still want either ts2006 and ts 2009 to run smoothly then you should choose at least a duo core 2.6 Ghz and 2GIg of memory. The other thing that will affect how trainz will operate are the age of your video drivers(are they the newest ones out there) I would also reccomend one with a video graphics card with at least 256 mb internal memory. Nividea is the card of choice
