This is fairly recent, but a few days ago i got the free 2009 trainz from the old giveaway. And i tried downloading mods, [specifically thomas and freinds mods] And all of them flopped, I dont really know why either, bcuz trainz is kinda complicated, i downloaded from sites with the models, and im pretty sure its because its not made for trainz 2009, just asking why, by the way it has errors like missing discrepancies, which i have NO idea how to fix, and some also have content errors, which i also dont have a idea to fix, so it would be nice if someone could give me a tutorial, or maybe a mod pack of thomas and freinds that should work fine with trainz 2009, if not have a nice day, Thanks.

Also when everything looks fine, and the only thing on the mod is download station, it says "Couldent download item, Couldent find url, Item cannot be found in download station" Something like that, someone please help.

A couple of very general statements here;

The various editions of Trainz are characterised by a parameter called trainz-build. The trainz-build of TS2009 was 2.9 if I recall correctly. This means that it will in principle be able to use assets (content) that have trainz-build numbers up to and including 2.9. If the assets have trainz-builds higher than 2.9, they will not be compatible with TS2009. To see what any asset’s trainz-build is, it is listed in Content Manager, but can also be found in the asset’s config.txt file (if you have downloaded and installed the asset).

Assuming the trainz-build is OK, assets can still have other faults that prevent them functioning. These are essentially mistakes made by creators in the construction of the assets. You can find out what the faults are by a right-click on the asset in Content Manager and selecting “View Faults and Warnings” (or words to that effect). Usually each fault is given a VE number, meaning Validation Error number. There is an index of VE’s and their meanings somewhere in the Trainz Wiki and that information can help creators and users to fix the faults. One thing to note is that assets on the Trainz Download Station (DLS) have been validated to ensure they meet the standards applicable to their particular trainz-build. Assets found on outside websites have not necessarily been subject to such quality control and may show up as faulty in your edition of Trainz even if the trainz-build is appropriate.

https://store.trainzportal.com/products/trainz-a-new-era TANE costs $10 and there is a lot more content available with fewer errors. TS2009 is very old these days. If you look on JATWS.org you may find some content that works with TS2009.

Cheerio John
Thanks ill check it out, But due to me not really having the finances for that [aka i have to ask my parents to buy it] Thanks for the web though, Ill hope that it works, Cheers john!

Thanks for the tip, Im pretty sure the builds are fine from what i checked, So ill see about the validation error numbers, Cheers Dinorius.

Most models these days are at least for TRS19 pending PBR compatibility and features you wouldn't find on earlier models. You'll be lucky to get the 2009 or even 2010 Thomas models from the Sodor Island 3D archive.
