Not found on DLS

I load up TRS2009 and go into CM2. Do a search of the DLS from within CM2 and select items for download. When I click "start", the CM2 now tells me that it could not find the item because it is not on the DLS. (see the image attached). It plainly says the item is on the DLS (highlighted blue) yet the red warning at the bottom says it is not there. Now that is kind of screwed up. Could it be my video card, video drivers or maybe low voltage to the video card? I have gotten all these excuses in the past with my trainz don't work properly.

The DLS is a database. CM3.2 picks up an index of the database. Sometimes an item isn't in the database where the index says it is, or CM3.2 may not get back a response fast enough due to Internet congestion and gives up.

Sometimes if you go to the web page then you are using a different index to the database, you can find it and download it with ftp.

You could simply wait until the DLS is reindexed then CM3.2 should be able to find it or in the case of a slow response try another time / day. 7 am EST should be fairly quiet.

kuid:76096:15616 is obsolete and has been superceded by kuid2:76096:15616:1 UP Bethgon II.

Thus it will not be available for Download.

I think 2009 has CM2 not CM3.2

Well why does it show it if it is not available for download. That doesn't make any sense either. This is some WEIRD software.

Because it still exists, it just can't be used for new things...

There may be routes/sessions/stock that depend on an obsolete version, so CM needs to provide a way of interacting with that old version, even if it can't be downloaded directly, thus it has to appear and be available for you to interact with in CM. But no method of choosing to install that asset for placing in new routes/sessions/whatever is provided.

You can always tell the obsolete assets in the CM that 2009/2010 uses, by the icon of a package with a red arrow pointing down next to it... do you see it in your screenshot? That means that the asset is obsolete and a newer version is available. *Usually* the newer version will have a kuid2: format kuid, and have a :number that is 1 higher than the obsolete version's kuid, or :1 if the obsolete version is the first version (ie, has a kuid: format kuid)

I understand your explaination but fail to understand why if the asset has been updated, why the updated version doesn't show up in the search. They usually do.

The name of an updated version can be different, so it might not appear in the same place in the list - try sorting by kuid.

But even that isn't perfect, as an unrelated kuid can obsolete an asset using the obsolete-table tag. And given the new asset can have a different name, it can be hard to find the replacement...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there aren't a load of assets that are 'accidently' obsoleted by typos in other assets too, given the number of typo-caused errors in assets ;)

Oh, and in this case, 'BNSF BethGon II' is there as:

BNSF BethGon II,<kuid2:76096:15613:1>

My guess is that your 'Location: Download station' search term is hiding it because you already have it installed :)

To be more detailed about this...

It would appear that 'BNSF BethGon Hopper Grafitied' as highlighted in your list, is superceded by 'UP BethGon II', as I said, the name can change:

The 'BNSF BethGon II' below the highlighted one, appears to be the actual spiritual (ie, same livery etc) sucessor to the one you have highlighted, and that asset has been updated again to become <kuid2:76096:15613:1>

Unfortunately, the asset system and the obsoletion/version system allows this kind of mess to happen. In an ideal world developers would maintain strict naming and numbering policies and their assets would never become confusing this way. But we're not in an ideal world...

Thanks for the info. I still don't understand the whole mess. Like I said. Some WEIRD software. I have some other choice words but I will just keep it to myself. Especially after losing 2010 and all the assets in it.
