Northern Arizona Route

Euphod, Yes I am. I’ve got the tracks laid to the eastern part of town. Winslow is my next project on this route. I just downloaded it. Your work on that mural building looks exactly like the real thing. It’s great! For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, the mural on that building facade is a tribute to the Eagles song ‘Take It Easy’. It’s a tourist highlight on Route 66 in downtown Winslow Arizona. “The girl in the flatbed Ford” is reflecting in the painted window. Thanks Euphod, I really wanted to include that landmark for Winslow!

.. the arch I made with the boulders...

Gordon, that is eye-poppingly good. Placing smaller boulders in between the big pillars to make the arch wider and a bit more random is a stroke of genius. And the rest of the scene looks almost photographic too. Between you, Mezzoprezzo and Mr Ricketts, I have to keep swapping my screen backgrounds every couple of days!

I'm starting to think that making sets of individual rocks is better than issuing them in pre-made groups - it puts the creativity back in the hands of the route builder. It's like how you can make an endless variety of things from just a basic set of Lego blocks. When I get time, I think I will go back and do a few more sets of boulders.

You're welcome, just drop a line in my Reskin Thread if there's anything else I can do up for you!

I agree with everything you've said!

Thanks Deane, I couldn’t agree with you more on the individual rocks vs. groups. I like the control of being able to place each boulder individually. I’m glad to hear you plan on creating more boulders. If I had a request, it would be for a more reddish color of sandstone. My guess is that other types of rock would be more popular that what I want. Either way I look forwards to all the amazing content you create.

Thanks Euphod, Your Winslow building is so well done and accurate. It’s part of “Standing on the corner” park. A lot of people have their picture taken in front of the building. I appreciate the offer and I will definitely have some request. I have some of your building lined up already for both Winslow and Flagstaff. In the meantime I have some significant yard track work to layout in Winslow.

This is Winslow Arizona. I have completed most of the town. It includes a large yard (for me anyhow). I still have an airport to add and some more industrial stuff. Winslow is the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] largest city on my route. I stayed fairly accurate in how I laid out the yard and city. It’s an impression of the city. I can’t imagine adding tons of additional houses, buildings and roads to be map accurate. At this point my computer performance is still smooth and I hope it stays that way. The Winslow yard is the end of the Seligman Sub and the beginning of the Gallup Sub. As I understand a lot of the yard was dismantled in the ‘80s by ATSF. It’s still a good size yard. Like many towns Winslow suffered when the interstate highway bypassed the city. Now that Route 66 history is popular the town is trying to revitalize. They really make a big deal about that Eagles song. So thanks to Euphod I have the “Standing on a corner” facade mural where it belongs, on Route 66 in Winslow Arizona. I’ll put more shots up later when I complete the area around the yard. A few of these shots are still works in progress.

Very great job:):Y::Y:. I'm drooling too much:udrool::udrool::udrool::mop::mop:, hopefully I don't short out my computer or get dehydrated (like that hasn't happened yet:hehe:)
MTW:clap:

Thanks Euphod, I just added a few more of your buildings. What I like about them is the interesting brick facades on all sides. The different shades of detailed roofs are great.

Thanks Brad, this town and yard (when I finish) is a major accomplishment for this route. I’d like to say it’s all downhill from here but it’s really uphill from here. There’s quite an elevation climb between Winslow and Flagstaff.

Thanks kamran, I would try to avoid the word fail. In anything creative, we learn more from what doesn’t work than what works the first time. I’m always looking for ways to improve on what I’ve done. I’m always learning something new.

Thanks montanawestern, well you don’t want to do that.

Thanks xawery, I’m enjoying all the great industrial warehouses you’ve
created.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your comments.

Thanks cascaderailroad, that’s a great idea. I know I spend time on some details that aren’t easily seen from trackside.

Thanks dermmy, I have certainly looked to your detailed work as an inspiration. Town work is definitely like putting a puzzle together. It’s a challenge to use less and create the illusion of more. At a certain point for me, I get away from the maps and photos and just work with what I have built.

These are some really nice shots Gordon.

I particularly like the view in the latest series of the airport in the middle to far distance leading way back into the haze.

I can almost smell the heady mix of rail diesel, aviation fuel and dust hanging in the arid atmosphere.

Great work.

Cheers

Stunning screen shots Gordon, Some of the best I have seen. Sure is looking to be one amazing route.

Cheers

Thanks Casper and kamran for the comments on the airport. I kept it simple. I could of continued adding details but it’s far enough away from the tracks that it didn’t seem necessary.

Trent, thank you for the compliment.

I’m at that point with Winslow that it’s time to keep heading west. It’s tempting to just go on adding details to the town and yard, but I think my computer giving me hints to move along. One of these days I’ll start getting the signals in. It’s something I’ve been avoiding. I need to read up on setting up signals correctly. Does anyone have any recommendations for a signal tutorial?

That's pretty important. I think it is too easy to get bogged down in the detailing and get lost in it. You get overwhelmed detailing and detailing, and when you really get right down to it, hardly anybody will ever be that close to notice it!!
